We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquez Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marquez, what makes you happy? Why?
Helping people. The way I grew up I was taught to always give to people because you’ll never know how that may help them. My Grandmother runs a ministry called the Traveling Angels who are very active in the community so helping there and really making a change makes me happy

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Firstly I would like to start with an introduction. My name is vv$kaiyo and I am an artist from Atlanta! I believe what sets me apart from others is the vulnerability and creativity that I express in my music. In my album So Many Thoughts I exposed the most traumatic parts of my life because I know that there’s at least one person out there who can relate to my story.

I am extremely proud of how far I’ve came since that album and I’m excited to share more of my story to the world in the future!

How did I get to where I am today? Well, lots of hardship. Just like everyone reading this I too have my fair share of heart aches and pain that I’ve suffered from. However, I didn’t let that hold me back. Instead I allowed it to transform me into the person I am now and used it as fuel to move forward. Of course nothing was easy but with repetition I made my way through and created the things I wanted in my life.

So if there’s anything I can say I’ve learned, I’d say that 1. People will come and go from your life and you have to learn to accept that. You have no control over their actions. And 2. What matters is what you have control over. A lot of things don’t go our way due to things that are out of our control. We should worry less about what we cant control and more of what we can so that we can live the lives that we want!

What I want the world to know about me and the rest of vv$ is that we are here and we are coming to change the world in the best way possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is actually a bit tough for me to answer I’m just now starting to explore the city but I would definitely recommend this ramen restaurant named jinya, this Mexican restaurant named Viva Mexico Mexican Restaurant (it’s the best ever), and I’d be wrong to not include a wing spot so I say A-town wings or touchdown wings but specifically the A-town on Panola road by the Walmart. And we could definitely hang around the city and hit up places like ponce city market, the high museum of art, the botanical gardens, and my favorite the frisky whisker cat cafe!

AND STAY AWAY FROM GLENWOOD

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would like to shoutout my grandmother. Without her I would never have begun the journey that I am on so there’s no one who deserves it more than her
