We had the good fortune of connecting with Maroxby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maroxby, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has been such a critical piece of going on this creative journey. Every new opportunity for me as a creative has come from my willingness to put myself out there. That’s not to imply that there hasn’t been failure or fear paired with those risks – tbh fear of risk held me back for a long time – but as you venture out and surround yourself with folks who have walked to the road you want to travel, you quickly realize that there is no reward without the risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a creative engineer and mixed reality artist. Using innovative tech, like mixed-media art, and animation, I find innovative ways to push educational narratives with a retro twist.

Having 10+ years of professional experience as a gameplay engineer, I hope to be an example for young black women, and women in general, that tech is just as accessible to us as the 70% of men who make up the industry. Moreover, I want to use these tools to tell my story, in hopes that it will inspire other women to use them to tell theirs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sooo, I’m a huge coffee-shop frequenter around Atlanta and I’ve grown quite attached to a few spots. If you’re looking to zone in at a laptop-friendly cafe, I 100% am sending you to ParkGrounds, and I’d say Drip is a close second.

If you’re looking to grab a drink and relax, I normally hover around EAV – more specifically Flat Iron. If you’re looking for food drinks and maybe some trivia, I’d send you to Grindhouse.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to call out Jennifer Chung for getting me moving on this road of entrepreneurship. A few years back, I had an incident where my creativity was , in essence, stolen from me; and her help and mentorship as a creative coach got me back on my grind. It was a really dark time for me and without her guidance and dedication, I might still be in that dark place.

And I also have to call out my amazing husband. Through all of the late nights, tears, successes and failures on this journey he has continued to love and support me.
