We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlon McCaulsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marlon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I didn’t have a solid process for starting a business, per se. I just wanted to tell good stories. Over the years, it became a brand – my name as an author. So, my focus is on writing the best book I can, which is good for business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I found my approach to writing this book “A Tricky Situation, to be unexpected but welcomed. The process of writing a book extends far beyond the act of writing itself; it is a lifestyle process and a journey. It’s a solitary journey that feels very intimidating at first; you wonder to yourself, is anyone else going to get it? Does this make sense? Is this funny? And if I can make myself laugh, then I know I’m on the right course. It wasn’t an easy journey but it was fulfilling. I got to where I am professionally by continuing to move forward and do the work. It sounds boring but that’s the process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I are extremely easy-going. We would probably hang out regularly at Dave’s Comic book shop and then visit Six Flags for a day. Following that, we would eat at several different restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Sheena, I can’t do any of this without her. Thank you to my Editor, Cynthia Marie. Thank you, JaQuavis Coleman, for extending your platform and taking a chance with me. Thank you to all the book family that supported us, Sha Lewis, A’Terica Moore, Terry Benjamin, Lockise Locks, Author Raye Turonek, Robert White, Radiah Hubbert at Urban Reviews, and Donna M. Gray-Banks at Fresh BookFestival.
