We had the good fortune of connecting with Marliceia Chavers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marliceia, what inspires you?
The thing that inspires me most is legacy. Living and leaving a legacy of helping people transform their lives and the lives of others by pursuing purpose is ultimately what inspires me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Let’s see, where should I begin…I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was about 7 years old. It’s weird in a sense because I’ve always known I would work for myself even before I really understood what that meant. I currently own and operate 4 businesses, which include Marliceia Chavers Artistry where I offer makeup artistry and education. I also am a degreed accountant and own and operate my own accounting firm, Right Way Bookkeeping and Notary, LLC. In addition, the official launch of my branding agency, H.E.R. Image Agency, LLC, is finally launching January 2023. However, you all specifically approached me about Mossy Fusions, LLC, so I will focus on that particular business.

Mossy Fusions came about unexpectedly during the height of COVID-19. Everyone was looking for natural ways to protect themselves from the virus or at least a way to quickly recuperate if they were to contract it. Sea Moss became a vastly spreading phenomenon that even hit the celebrity world. I decided to do some research and try it myself due to having a lot of older generation family I wanted to help protect. The most common form of sea moss consumed at the time was the gel form. I ordered various gels and did not like the consistency nor the taste of the plain gel. It was often promoted as a supplement to be placed in smoothies or tea, etc.; however, I had the thought of making it delicious without sacrificing the health benefit so people could just take it straight out of the jar, no mixing required. This is when Mossy Fusions was born. I went into the lab (my kitchen) and started to develop fresh fruit purees to infuse with the sea moss gel with, which inspired the name of our company.

The funny part is that I never intended on making this a business endeavor, but as I shared what I was doing on Facebook more and more people asked to purchase and I obligied until the point where it had to either become a business or I would have to shut it down, so I chose the former. Now we are a fully established health and wellness business that is “giving life one ounce at a time”. We also launched our second product in 2022, which are our Quench Lemonades. We offer mango sea moss elderberry lemonade, pomegranate sea moss elderberry lemonade, and pineapple citron sea moss elderberry lemonade. These have been a hit and now we have planned for several other products that will launch this year.

It has definitely not been easy trying to grow multiple business and scale them to be self-sufficient. I still have not arrived, but I’m nowhere near giving up either. Giving up is not an option, but pivoting when change is needed is vital. My biggest lesson has been time management. It is imperative to schedule your day to day for success especially when you are juggling several businesses.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that people appreciate the knowledge a seller has when selling a product. It helps them understand and compels them to purchase. It is imperative to know your products and be able to convey to the world why they need them.

The one thing I want the world to know about me is that I am passionate about the health and wellness of the all communities, but specifically our brown and black communities. It is my goal to educate and infuse our communities with the knowledge and products to help enrich their lives by making them stronger, healthier, and happier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hailing from the Magic City of Birmingham, AL, there are plenty of gems that I would show in the city, but first I would begin with our history and on Monday take them to The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and 16th Street Baptist Church, then we would swing over to Yo Mama’s Restaurant for some soul food made with love and flavor. Surely, we would have the “itis” after that, which would be the perfect time to head to Life Touch Massage for serenity, relaxation, and possibly a little nap. Lol!

On Tuesday, coffee, and pastries at The Modern House, then spend the day shopping at The Summit, followed by dinner at BrickTop’s restaurant, and end the night with a great Hookah session at Avondale Hookah!

Wednesday is when the city really begins to come alive, so I’m definitely thinking we would hit up East West for dinner and ambiance followed by Eighty-Eight for Karaoke that evening for some fun and laughter!

Thursday, we would go on a mural tour around the city and take dope photos, eat lunch at El Barrio, and then go to the splatter room at Inspiration Birmingham for some more artistic fun and cocktails. We would end with a nice authentic Italian dinner at Amore.

Friday it is time to get ready for the turn-up with a little bar and lounge hopping. We would start the early afternoon at Bizarre the Coffee Bar, then swing on over to Cayo CoCo Rum Bar for some awesome Cuban-inspired cuisine followed by a few craft cocktails at Queen’s Park. After Queen’s Park, we would head over to Plum Bar for some live music and sing the night away, with the occasional dip next door to Dirty Ashes.

Saturday’s vibe would definitely be the Spa at Ross Bridge for some relaxation and pampering, the warm jacuzzi is everything after a massage with champagne on deck. We all deserve to be pampered in my book. Lunch at Watkin’s Branch Bourbon and Brasserie followed by an early visit to Vitola for my favorite Vanilla Bourbon cigar and conversation over a nice glass of Blade and Bow Bourbon.

Sunday, we are definitely attending church and having an after-service meal at Gabriella’s. This is one of our famous soul food buffets that is only open on Sundays. After that, it is nap time and chill for sure. Later, we can elect to have a Sunday Funday and go to a Birmingham Squadron game and return home for a good night’s rest.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my mother Mary Chavers and my father James Chavers simply because they are the foundation for why I exist and why I have the courage to pursue everything I dream of. Their unconditional love and support have fueled my desire to create a life worth living and reading about. If I can give back even a portion of what my parents have given to me to my future children then I know they will be successful. May both my parents and my future children reap the benefits of the seeds my parents planted and that others have watered and nourished along the way.
