Meet Marketa George | CEO of KEYS Primary Academy and Author of Faces and Phases

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marketa George and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marketa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am Marketa George, master educator with 23 years of experience, teacher leader, academic coach, and former Title I Principal who served at-risk students and families. After watching the detrimental effects of COVID, I knew in order to academically recover for millions of our babies, I needed to risk it all and start KEYS Primary Academy…the Readiness School. I walked away from my dream job and walked into my destiny. KEYS is the answer to a massive educational concern. Our babies have suffered tremendously as a result of the pandemic and its lasting effects. My vision is to give students in the foundational grades a fighting chance, while partnering with families to provide them hope through academic generational success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an Atlanta native! A night on the town with friends might include a trip to Atlantic Station, Zoo Atlanta, Atlanta’s Historical Grant Park, The Trap Museum, or the Atlanta Peach Museum. Next, we would hang out at Euro Atlanta for poetry or bingo night. Afterwards, we’d dine at Aye Tea Elle, Binky’s ATL, Grits and Eggs, Anansi, Fin & Feathers, Eats, Sweet Georgia Juke Joint, Barney’s, or the Atlanta Fish Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been several stakeholders in my life. Stakeholders who have encouraged me, taught me, supported me, loved me. Of those stakeholders, I would like to dedicate this shoutout to me!
