We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Pettit and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Without a doubt, hard work and a “never give up or in” attitude. I also believe that you have to a be a bit naive when going into a new phase of your life. For example, becoming an actor and a best-selling author are extremely difficult tasks–and if I had known just how difficult they were, I might never have tried. But I was naive enough to think I could accomplish both–and I have.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel creativity has played an important role in every facet of my life. At my marketing firm, Creaxion, it’s always about the BIG IDEA. Coming up with a creative solution to our clients’ business problems. If you come up with the right idea, the money to make it happen will follow. As a writer, it’s all about the story. Write a good story and you’ll attract a bunch of readers. As an actor–it’s also all about creative storytelling. Without a good script, there are no good actors. I want people to know they can always count on me to give my creative best to everything I do in life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has a tremendous arts and food scene. My marketing firm, Creaxion, has been very fortunate to have promoted some of the best traveling exhibits in the world. Right now, we’re promoting King Tut and Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at the Exhibition Hub Art Center in Doraville. I would definitely say check out one of the shows at EHAC–and then go enjoy some great international food along Buford Highway. You have to hang out in Piedmont Park and if you’re up for a bit of a challenge, hike Stone Mountain. My go-to food favorites are La Tavola, Sotto Sotto and Kevin Rathbun Steak. And, if you want some Southern cooking try Mary Mac’s Tea room and the Colonade on Cheshire Bridge Rd. The fried chicken at both places is heavenly.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I decided to become a professional actor in 2018–at the ripe old age of 55. At the time, I thought I was too old to become an actor–but it was just the opposite. Once I started training, I started booking parts left and right. Hollywood needs actors of all ages, shapes and sizes. The question is–are you willing to work hard to become an actor? Including training? I give a lot of credit for my success as an actor to the team at Drama Inc. in Atlanta. They have created a wonderful learning environment, where real, working actors train the students. So a huge shoutout to Catherine Dyer, Jason MacDonald, Claire Bronson and Scott Poythress, the owners of Drama Inc. You changed my life–for the better.
