We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Before starting a business, my life was simple; I went to school, work, and home. My lifestyle became somewhat demanding after starting my clothing line Spazz. Becoming an entrepreneur
takes up a large amount of my time. Even though I understand the importance of dedication, I
must constantly tell myself “do not become obsessed Mark! You have other obligations” it never
works. However, every day I work diligently on day-to-day task for my business and personal
life. Overall, I maintain a balance to my work life and personal life.

It is not always an easy task. I use the calendar and reminder apps on my phone to make time for
social gatherings, exercising, and other things. Although I have not mastered time management, I
see a difference and it makes me happy. If it is not on my calendar, I cannot dedicate my time to
it. This technique is used to help me focus.

Keeping focus helps me balance my personal life with my work life. Balance, itself, is important
because it reduces the chances of becoming physically, mentally, and emotionally drained.
Maintaining my balance is something that I work on every day because it only takes one day to
fall into bad habits.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a passion for fashion, more specifically sneaker fashion. After working retail for 5 plus years, I decided to start my own business. The ability to customize our apparel is what set us apart from other businesses. I am looking forward to decorating my store. Owning a brick and mortar is my ultimate goal. It will give me a feeling of accomplishment

It was not easy for me to get where I am today due to financial reasons. Along with time management, I am learning money management, because starting a company takes time and dedication and money. I feel like I am financially suffering sometimes. I have not completely overcome this issue, but i am working towards organizing my money and staying within budget.

I will like the world to know that everyone’s goals require actions and dedication. It may be hard, but don’t let that deter you from following your dream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to Jazzy’ Restaurant and The Potter House. Both restaurants sell soul food and the food is good and worth the money.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give most of the credit to God because through good or bad days he provides strength to continue this journey. Secondly, my family, in particular my parents and my cousins. my parents and cousins, who help financially and behind the scenes. Lastly my friends because their words of encouragement, give me the extra boost I need to keep going, especially when I see them wearing Spazz merchandise. I have lots of support around me and they keep me going.
