We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Casper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what inspires you?
For me, I’m inspired by the Veterans who come into Tech For Troops, who know they need help and set their minds to learn how to elevate themselves through the use of a computer. Then having them come back a few years later to “give back” to their fellow Veterans. Marion is a Vietnam Veteran who was a medic while in – https://youtu.be/MaCTeiG42ss

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I entered boot-camp for the United States Marine Corps on Feb 13, 1983. The discipline and esprit de corps that was instilled has never left me. Getting married in 1985 and thinking I had the tiger by the tail when I got out in 1987. Then having reality of being a civilian abruptly change my thinking and realising I was not “special” created a desire to better myself. I attended college and graduated in 1997 and then jumped headlong into the corporate race. BY 2013 I had my own business and was doing well then I was asked to be on the Board of Tech For Troops. It was Dec 17, 2015, coming through the door for a visit to 750 sq ft space, I knew I was home – 100% my dream job. I was asked to be the executive director and didn’t hesitate saying YES! It isn’t easy running a NP, but through the support of family, community and fellow Veterans, T4T is now 9,000 sq ft and planning on expansion across the USA.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take my USMC buddies out to a nice restaurant, hit a local watering hole then the next few days we’d head out back into my acreage and have some fun! Then next, I’d take them up into the mountains for a day walk about. All the time shooting the bull, reminiscing and laying it on thick 🙂 To end the visit I’d get them all to go to the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA about an hour away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Great idea! I’d like to Shoutout to my family, who supported Tech For Troops through all the ups and downs we have been through. Every time life has thrown T4T a curve ball, my family has stepped in and supported the Mission through volunteerism, money and understanding that my time is not my own. T4T quickly became a passion project – that our Men and Women are IN NEED is a slap at everything I hold dear. To raise your right hand, take the Oath and then not be supported after getting out of the military is an stain on our country.
