We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Rainey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marissa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve always told people they should take calculated risks. I think about the reward, and if that outweighs the majority of the risk, I go for it. My business was a risk. Betting on myself in one of the largest hair capitals in the US with limited experience. But I knew I had talent and I had great customer service and passion. Life is already a risk, so just go for it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company is a glue-less wig company based in Atlanta I specialize in sewing machine crafted wigs that don’t require glue to be worn. The snug fit of my wigs and ease of wear sets me apart from a lot of other companies and my customer service. I take my time with all clients to help them select a wig that’s best for their wear and lifestyle. I’m excited about the recent expansion of my business with teaching classes. I’ve had students fly all over the US to learn how to make a wig on the sewing machine. I started my company two years ago. People would ask me to make them wigs and I refused. One day on my couch, I decided I should just start and now here I am. I’ve worked in sales for the majority of my career so a lot of challenges Yes we’re just with getting g new business. I started connecting with people, going to events, promoting models, and just getting my name out to the masses in Atlanta. Some lessons I learned were that getting out and talking to people was much more beneficial than just social networks. I want the world to know my brand is from and made for other single moms, hard working women, business woman, entertainers, and anyone who enjoys beauty and adding a new wig every now and again to their wardrobe.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Funny, my best friend just came. We went to the Civil Rights Museum. Amazing place full of history. Then to end the night with good food, have to check out Cigar City Lounge. The lamb chops and mac n cheese are addictive. Then for some fun, Dave and Busters is a go to. Be sure to order the watermelon margarita. If you want some delicious brunch, head over to Buckhead Bread Co on Sundays for their chicken and waffles. Or if you want brunch any day, check out Toast on Lennox and try their Cinnabon waffle. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is to my family and friends. I have friends that have been repeat customers since I started my company 2 years ago. I have family that always prays for my business, like my mom and dad. And shoutout to every photographer that has worked with me, promoted me, and person that has shouted me out over the years.
