We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario Canon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mario, how do you think about risk?
I think about risk in the form of self confidence. When you’re willing to take risks to further your quality of life and to help impact others it shows true leadership. you’re not afraid of making mistakes and judgment from outside energies. You’re creator, a mover and a shaker. My whole life and career has been built off taking risks some good and some bad but I don’t regret any of them. The textures aquired when staying on your purpose alone is worth it! You can provide insight and provide hope for others!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a recording artist I pride myself in the quality of music I put out and my message. I don’t promote self sabotaging behavior or death in my community. Its definitely not easy because I come from a dark place surround by nothing but guns, drugs, and violence. One thing I’ve learned along the way is to stay true to yourself. Everyone has a different timeline and social media only shows you the finished product. it’s merely a presentation of what people want you to see. Reality is, we’re all just human and nobody is perfect. We experience the same emotions and uncertainties that may perplex us throughout our journey of life. The world will respect and love that gave myself a choice to make a difference. I made a choice to stand for something.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Chicago in the summertime! There are so many beautiful places and great restaurants to try! I also would take them to Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Incredible weather and the people are very welcoming!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Sharon Ward has been a huge influence on my life. My mentor and manager Darry Stuggis. My coach Jim Youngman. My close friend and mentor Charles Whimper of Neiman Marcus. LaRoyce Hawkins actor and musician from the hit TV show Chicago PD on NBC. Alderman and lawyer Deandre Tillman of Calumet City. Ruben Ramirez Starpower Film Company. Montana of 300. The legendary Twista who took me on tour with to perform in front of crowds of 15,000 plus! there are so many more but I could go all day.
