We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was a child, I have always used my imagination and creativity to express myself. Art, music, books and movies have fueled me with inspiration and I have never wanted to do anything else but to make my ideas come to life through graphic design, video edits or visuals. I chose this career as a way to have fun, while also helping others execute their visions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most of my work consists of graphic design, video edits or a combination of both. Music is my biggest inspiration, because I use it to draw ideas that come from my emotions and memories. I want people to be able to have an experience when they see my work, because feeling is the most rewarding that can come out of it.

Looking into the future, I am excited for opportunities to work with musical artist. By collaborating with someone on a music video, visualizer, or album cover, I want to help them bring their music to life in a visual manner.

Getting to where I am today has not an easy experience. I moved to Georgia from Mexico City at a young age. The life I knew as a child slowly began to fade when I realized that I would never go back to visit my loving family or colorful city. My biggest challenge growing up was living in uncertainty. There was a time when I didn’t know if I’d have the opportunity to go to college or afford the tools to pursue the career I dreamed of.

I’ve learned that the obstacles I’ve face have been gifts to teach me that determination and persistence can take me a long way.

It is my mission to help people express themselves in the best way possible. Being vulnerable and expressing yourself can be a rewarding experience and for the audience it can be a way of forming a connection.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting me in Atlanta, I would start off by taking them to my favorite wing spot, Wings and Burger. During the we week we could start off in North Georgia by exploring the luscious forests, the giant mountains, and sparkling waterfalls. It is a relaxing experience to spend time in nature while getting the best views. while hiking or kayaking near Elijay, GA. Then we would make our way down to Savannah, where we could have a delicious meal at Alligator Soul and a cookie for dessert at Byrd’s Famous Cookies. On the weekend, it would be nice to get away from the bustling city to Jekyll Island. There we could relax on the natural beaches, take a bike ride near the marshes, and end the night by stargazing to catch a few shooting stars (they are not as rare as you’d think).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today with out the love and support of my mom. She has experienced challenges and sacrificed opportunities just to provide me with the tools I needed to learn. My mom lit the fire that continues to ignite the motivation I have towards become the best that I can be. Thank you mom for believing in me.
