We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn Blanton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marilyn, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of advice that I disagree with would have to be the famous quote “Fake it til you make it”. I say this because authenticity in all stages of growth is very important to me. Yes, you may have to change some habits or attributes about yourself to reach whatever goal you’re striving for, but I don’t think that’s “faking it”. That transformational stage when you are becoming who you’re striving to be is vital to making your dreams reality, so maybe it’s the choice words that I don’t agree with. That process is very much real, so I’ll just say ‘Faith it til you make it”!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, my aspiration is to ignite a journey of self-discovery in others. If I can achieve that, it would bring me immense satisfaction.
As a baker, I infuse my cakes and decorations with emotions and creativity. My ultimate aim is to provide my clients with an unforgettable confectionary experience, one that leaves a lasting impression of delight and joy!
My art is a reflection of my inner world and the emotions that I experience in life. What sets me apart from others is the unique perspective I bring to my work. I strive to convey not just what I see but also how I feel about it, creating a connection between my art and the viewer on an emotional level. I’m most proud of my ability to capture moments and feelings in my work, allowing people to relate to it in a deeply personal way. I also pride myself in seeing different perspectives in situations which I feel brings depth into songwriting.
My journey to where I am today in my career involved overcoming doubts and obstacles. I persevered by dedicating myself to my craft and constantly improving my skills, recognizing that persistence and resilience are vital in the arts.
The lessons I’ve learned include the importance of authenticity. It’s essential to stay true to my unique style and voice as an artist, even when faced with trends or external pressures. I’ve also discovered the value of networking and building relationships within the art community. Collaborating with fellow artists and seeking mentorship has been instrumental in my growth.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am committed to creating art that not only appeals to the eyes but also touches the heart and soul. I hope my work resonates with people, evoking emotions and sparking conversations. My journey as an artist is a continuous exploration of self-expression and storytelling through art, and I’m excited to share it with the world!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question! If we have a week I’ll line up a good variety of different options for us to explore. Starting with some of my favorite nature ventures, Gibbs Garden. I went there for the first time when I was 5 months pregnant and it was such a calming beautiful experience. I would then follow that up with The Chattahoochee Food Works, or Ponce City Market which is like a food terminal with so many yummy food options to choose from. Next I would suggest six flags or the High Museum depending on what kind of mood they were in.( I love me a good rollercoaster ride). I would then plan for us to go to Fainting Goat Winery to enjoy an evening on the vineyard. Lastly I would take us to JINYA to get some delicious ramen.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to my incredible 2-year-old daughter! Her boundless energy, infectious laughter, and endless curiosity fill my days with joy and motivation. She reminds me every day that there’s wonder in the simplest of things, and her love and presence keeps me going. Thank you for being my little bundle of inspiration!
