We had the good fortune of connecting with Marian Chism and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Funny enough I’ve had the entrepreneurial spirit since I was 18. My dad always said “you have too many million dollar ideas”. With Beyond Measure Bar, I knew there was a gap in the market for a bar business that filled the holes.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
About 2 years ago I planned an event from start to finish at my job and it was one of the most fulfilling things I had done. I was able to roll out a new cocktail list, curate the event and create a memorable time for everyone. After seeing the success of that, I had to do some reflection because I knew of my talent but I didn’t feel it was being given the platform it deserved. That following week I quit my job and went Full Time.

I’ve learned that not everyone will understand your vision, but that’s because they can’t see through your lense.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Currently my work weeks are a little crazy so they might have to spend some time at Pullman Yards with me while I’m working. Luckily they could sip on my cocktails all day. Some of my places in Atlanta are definitely Rock Steady, James Room and Botica for a night of drinks, food and music. Colony square has also grown to be one my favorite spots in town because of its walkability and variety, but that leads me to the belt line which is definitely a weekend staple.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My brothers have been my biggest supporters! At times I felt like they just saw me as their crazy younger sister, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve seen the efforts they’ve taken to be not only supportive of my business but also encouraging!

My regulars from the bars I’ve worked at around Atlanta have also shown me so much love by sharing my posts and telling their friends.
