We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Osorio Driscoll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
While I was a junior in college I started getting request from family and friends to paint murals on their kids nurseries. I was lucky enough that referrals kept coming and by the time I graduated college, I had a fairly well establish mural and decorative painting business. I knew then that I wanted to work for myself doing art and that it was possible. After years of painting murals and decorative finishes for both residential and commercial clients, I started shifting my work to fine art and I have been doing that for the past 8 years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what defines my brand is my use of color. I believe color is a powerful way to communicate and convey emotion. At first I was concerned that my art was simply “pretty” but the great reception my work has have is a clear indicator of how people need beauty and joy in both their lives and their spaces. I also love creating commissioned pieces in which I am capturing meaningful places for the clients. I love hearing the beautiful ways in which people connect and create memories in nature. I think the biggest challenge was to feel confident enough to share my work but if you don’t share it, how would you ever know if people respond to it?

I am excited to continue pairing and always hopeful to create a career with longevity, I want to keep painting and creating for everyone. I am also excited about my new venture in which I am using my art on textiles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When you are in Roanoke you have to see the mountains. We are so blessed to be surrounded by the blue ridge. I would love to start with a sunrise hike to mcAfees knob because is such an incredible experience, I would also take them to smith mountain lake, our beautiful downtown area. To eat at the river and rail, Fortunato and lucky for my favorite cocktails

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
