We had the good fortune of connecting with Margo Lyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started Your Form because, as a sewist and small business owner doing custom garments and alterations, I was frustrated by the lack of tools that reflected real bodies, everything was standardized. With my background in industrial design from Georgia Tech and a passion for sustainable, inclusive solutions, I saw an opportunity to merge technology and thoughtful design. Your Form turns a simple smartphone scan into a personalized dress form and custom-fit sewing patterns, making sewing more accessible, accurate, and joyful for makers of all skill levels.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative work spans from custom garment commissions and alterations to screen printing and etching original art for local events and concerts. What sets my work apart is the blend of craftsmanship, collaboration, and a strong commitment to sustainability. As a designer passionate about waste management and material innovation in fashion, I approach each project as an opportunity to merge environmental responsibility with artistic expression.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, we’d definitely spend a lot of time biking, it’s the best way to take in Atlanta. We’d start with a ride along the BeltLine, stopping in Piedmont Park for a picnic or a nap in the grass. One day, we’d head to Krog Street Market for some dumplings and wander through the shops, then grab a drink on the rooftop of the Clermont Lounge to catch the sunset. I’d make sure we bike through Inman Park, admiring the historic Victorian houses and stopping for coffee or vintage shopping. We’d explore local art galleries, maybe catch a show at Variety Playhouse, and definitely eat our way through the city, and Buford Highway gems. It’d be a week full of movement, art, good food, and all the creative pockets of the city that make it feel alive.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Coming from a family of artists, I was always surrounded by creativity and inspiration, which gave me an early love for design. I’ve been unbelievably lucky to have supportive friends, family, and mentors who encouraged me every step of the way. My time at Georgia Tech has been especially formative, the community there pushed me to think bigger, stay curious, and believe in the power of design to make real change.
