Meet Margaret McNeal | Certified Home Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Margaret McNeal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margaret, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m naturally a creative person and I wanted to have a business that will allow me to use my abilities, push me outside my comfort zone and be different. When I decided to make baking my side hustle I didn’t want to follow trends and at that time cupcakes were in trend. I was in Starbucks and I purchased a cake pop I loved it. It was something different unique and small enough to enjoy in two bites. One day while shopping at Target and I saw a book on how to make cake pops and that was the beginning of my journey to developing Desserts on Delicious. The name came to me organically because the street I lived on was Delicious Court and I was making desserts so that’s how the name was formed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The slogan of my business is classic deserts with a modern twist. When it comes to baking, classic desserts will always sell. Everyone loves a classic white cake, pound cake, and banana pudding. What sets you apart from others is how you put your spin on it. Whether it comes to taste or design being creative will help you elevate your brand. I’m always striving to take it to the next level so Instead of having a white cake I have a white chocolate cake, I can turn a red velvet into red velvet cake pops and a classic pound cake into a Hennessey poundcake.
I’m most proud of having great customers and collaborating with other bakers. I’m looking forward to expanding my business by building up my presence on YouTube and opening an online shop of baking products.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way or increase your prices, continue to learn, and get some rest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give credit to my family. They have been a huge supporter of mine throughout my journey. They have encouraged me, supported me financially when I lost my job, inspired me to keep going, and set my down to discuss how I can do better. My sister Justins has been instrumental in getting my name out there. She’s my hype person, marketing agent, and delivery person. In addition, my cousin Audrey has been there for me during crunch time making deliveries or sealing orders.
