We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business came from my desire to see others be as successful me. I have worked as an HR Director for over 30 years in various fields, and I have been a girls basketball coach for 20 years. My passion is helping people reach their greatest potential. Being a life coach offers me the opportunity to help my clients articulate their desired outcomes without creating panic by asking them how they plan to achieve it. That is where I come in. I create an action plan that guides them through all the necessary steps to reach their goal.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the CEO and Founder of Coach Marcy Life Coaching Services, LLC located in Snellville, GA. I provide 1:1 and group coaching sessions to clients seeking assistance with career transition, business coaching, and business marketing. I also do motivational speeches for women who have been victims of domestic violence. What excites me most about my business is seeing the transformation of my clients as they progress through my coaching services. My journey to success began in the 90’s when I started working for a company in NY as a front desk associate. I immediately realized I was not cut out for working a traditional job helping someone else live their dream. I tried several multi-level marketing companies only to fail at each one. I never bought into helping someone else get rich if there was nothing in it for me other than a paycheck that was capped at a certain income. Starting my own business was not as easy as I thought. I began right before the pandemic. Courthouses were closed. I had no help with any of the paperwork to apply for my business license, and to top it off, someone had already been using my name for their business. My biggest takeaways that helped me overcome the obstacles of starting my business during the pandemic were construct a plan, invest time and money, take action, and re-evaluate the plan again to make necessary changes. When people see the name Coach Marcy, I want them to know they are receiving advice from someone who has walked in their shoes time and time again except now I have the recipe to success through my failures.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to visit Atlanta, I would definitely take them to the GA Aquarium, the High Museum, Atlanta Botanical Garden (especially during the holidays for the beautiful lights), the World of Coke, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and the Mercedes Benz Stadium. There is a great variety of food in Atlanta as well. I would spend each day taking her to the restaurants that I fell in love with like Fox Brothers, Two Urban Licks, The Atlanta Breakfast Club, Slutty Vegan, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, and Scotch Bonnet Jamaican Eatery. Atlanta has a few nice lounges I would take her to visit as well. Atlanta Comedy Corner offers a great bar as well as comedy venues starring hilarious comedians like my favorite, Majah Hype. The Whole World Improv Theatre and 1 Up Comedy club offer great comedy shows as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I attribute my success and passion for helping people to my godmother, Donna Gibson, who dedicated years of her life helping others. Donna worked hard to make sure I knew I was special and had talent. Although I was too young to know my worth, she saw my ability to be successful in whatever I set out to do. She always made sure to tell me I can do anything I want in life as long as I committed to putting in the work. With her support and motivation, I have made it to where I am today as a successful Certified Life Coach.
