We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Whitehead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
As a photographer, what makes me truly happy is capturing a candid moment in time, no pose, no prep, just a raw expression or still life or nature. I’ll also follow that up with placing that said image on some type of print, like a canvas, foam board, etc.

The why? Its just something about capturing that moment, as its just an innocent moment in time, at that very moment that continues to motivate and challenge me to capture it again and again in other ways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of my first biggest moments was being the photographer for a couple that ended up having a season on Netflix on The Wedding Coach, Ep 4, Royal Blue. It was amazing being on TV, doing what I love, capturing moments. And the show also bought 10 images from me.

Another moment for me was when I did my first print out on canvas for the couple and for another person who liked my photography.

Recently I also was able to gain a contract for a music festival that I initiated and was able to bring in my mentor and videographer to capture the event.

I currently have a regular job, while growing the business as a photographer, it has been 7 years since The Marksmans Photos_llc was licensed. The difficult part is staying on the regular job, while desiring to go full time with photography. I am on the cusp of “jumping” off the porch and really challenge myself to go all the way. Trying to overcome this daily debate is most challenging at the moment.

One of the things I’ve learned along the way is that not everyone will see my photos as I do. There are just different taste for different things, don’t take it personal.

If there is just one thing I would like all to know, its that I am very passionate about photography, I am self taught, so anything I photograph has a purpose to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First day Chattahoochee Food Works for some drinks and food, chill Next the Draw Bar, LOA to have more drinks, pool side fun
The Underground Art scene
Wild Heaven West End Brewery to eat, drink, hit the beltline.
Ponce City Market for the 9 Mile restaurant on the rooftop
The James Room is also great for drinks and cool vibes

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A mother’s love and support has always helped me along the way. That is where I get my nature love from. Also my circle of friends have seen the struggles, beginning and process of me developing myself as a photographer. They have supported from the start.
