We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Huertas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business, PHAYTH, was multifaceted but primarily centered around my desire to spread love and positivity. I strongly believe in the power of fashion as a form of self-expression and wanted to create a brand that not only offered stylish and high-quality streetwear clothing but also conveyed a meaningful message.

Additionally, the birth of my daughter, Alina Phayth Huertas, played a significant role in inspiring me to embark on this entrepreneurial journey. I wanted to create something that not only showcased her radiant spirit but also allowed me to make a positive impact on the world she will grow up in.

Through PHAYTH, I aim to celebrate individuality, encourage self-love, and inspire others to embrace kindness and compassion. My ultimate goal is to create a community of like-minded individuals who believe in the power of spreading love and positivity, and to create a brand that represents these values.

Starting my own business has been both challenging and rewarding, but the passion and determination to make a difference in the world drive me to overcome any obstacles. I am grateful for the opportunity to combine my love for fashion with the mission of promoting love and positivity, and I am excited to see how PHAYTH continues to grow and touch the lives of others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art for me is my own extension of a perspective not many want to turn their heads towards. Ever since my father expressed his discomfort for conformity, I have embraced the idea of being different, its easy to ride a wave created by many, i’m trying to float in my own ocean. My style and attitude revolve around embracing my individuality, being comfortable in my own skin disregarding societal expectations. What sets me apart is my drive to push the boundaries and improve upon what others dislike, show people a different perspective I aim to challenge people’s taste in fashion and question how far they are willing to go. My journey to this point has been filled with sacrifices, sacrifices i am grateful for but I find solace in knowing that my children will one day understand. Along the way, I have learned that success does not come from idleness; one must take action and at least attempt to achieve their goals. When faced with career setbacks, my art and creativity have always been there to provide peace. I want the world to grasp the significance of embracing new experiences without hesitation and understanding the workings of the universe. By simply trying something different, I unexpectedly discovered a passion for hairstyling, which derived from a rumor when i was in the Army back in 2016, leading to the birth of my daughter and clothing brand, Phayth, which brings me here today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
i have a love for Italian food so dinner would be either two places or both, Emilio Ballatos, for there flavorful Italian cuisines and 212 steak house for there amazing wagyu steak. I have never been a fan of clubs, but I do enjoy brunching on Sundays in Astoria Queens. There are numerous places there where I can enjoy a good drink and food. However, when it comes to activities and shopping, the Lower East Side has captured my heart. Kind Regards on Ludlow has been my go-to store for years. Their aesthetic lighting and setup create a perfect ambiance for me, and their music never fails to impress. They play a mix of today’s hits and nostalgic tunes, which always gives me a great feeling. In addition, Sweet Chick and Ludlow Coffee Supply are two of my favorite spots to hang out, not only for their delicious food and coffee but also for the creative individuals that frequent these places. They always inspire me and help me bring my ideas to life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to the incredible woman who has been the backbone of our family, the mother of my kids. I am beyond grateful for your unwavering support and dedication in holding down the fort at home while I work late, striving to create a life we never had. You have sacrificed so much, always putting our kids first and ensuring they never have to experience the hardships we endured. Your strength and love are unparalleled, and I am forever grateful for everything you do.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my parents, who may not have always believed in my dreams, but they have never stopped supporting me. Their unwavering faith in my abilities, even in the face of uncertainty, has been a source of inspiration for me. With just a little bit of faith from them, I have been encouraged to keep pushing forward, chasing my dreams and building a better future for our family. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for always being there, even when doubts crept in.

Last but certainly not least, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my kids. Your love and pure hearts have been my driving force, fueling my determination each day. Your smiles and hugs remind me that I have a purpose, and that purpose is to provide you with a world filled with love, opportunities, and endless possibilities. You are the reason I wake up every morning with a clear vision and a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you for pouring your love onto me, filling my heart and soul with the strength to conquer any challenge that comes our way.

To the amazing mother of my kids, my supportive parents, and my loving children, words cannot fully express my gratitude. You are the foundation that keeps me grounded and motivated. I am forever grateful for each of you and the roles you play in my life. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with, and I am excited to continue this journey of creating a life filled with love, happiness, and endless possibilities.
