We had the good fortune of connecting with Marciana Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marciana, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from heart of South Memphis, TN and have resided here in Atlanta for the past 6.5 years.
Growing up in poverty was normal until my academic achievements in middle school allowed me to be presented with opportunities that I didn’t know existed. Those opportunities showed me that there was a world outside of the “projects”.
I learned early that education will be my gateway to be able to live and not just exist.
Growing up watching my grandmother struggle to raise us, ignited a desire to have a great career and to be financially secure.
My upbringing has impacted me in such a way that I want to share information and create the same opportunities that people created for me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Allied Health Prep Academy is a training program that assist allied health professionals with gaining skills and/ or preparing for the national exams within the industry of Medical Coding, Billing, and understanding career opportunities within the realm of Health Information Technology.
Everyone doesn’t have the desire to go to college for many years before starting a potentially lucrative career, however, Everyone does have the desire to make great money with completion of short term programs.
I opened my training academy to show people how to study this specific skill for 4-6 months and upon successfully completion of the exam, the entry level salaries are around $45K-$50K.
The affordability of my workshops, study materials and courses are one of the less expensive around, however, the quality of my educational approach is unmatched.
I’m most proud of being able to have a lucrative business while changing lives.
It was not easy to grow an audience, create credible content and proficiently deliver it and there were days I worked on my business for 10 hours a day, after working 8-10 hour shifts.
I overcame a lot if changes by creating schedules and strictly operating by a calendar only. I was able to have more balance when I incorporated a routine.
I’ve learned that you can work for an employer and then take those sane skills and apply them to yourself and create an avenue to make money and eventually open a business.
I want the world to know that we are bridging the gap between communities and health care careers. Many medical coding programs are expensive, therefore I wanted to offer quality, inexpensive training to those who are seeking a health care career, an increase in salary, and new skills that averages $50K with as little as 4 month training.
When I was studying for my Medical Coding exam years ago, there weren’t many platforms where veteran coders would encourage and teach future coders. My experience on most platforms was unwelcoming, therefore I wanted to create the help that I needed while I was studying.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On a week long trip to the city, we’d definitely have to eat at Slutty Vegan, Ray’s in the City and the Sundial. I love the scenery of the city so I can also see myself hoping on the train and exploring the city downtown, especially at night when it’s well lit and more beautiful.
The Beltline is nice also.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother definitely deserves to be recognized as an intricate part of my success. At age 13, my mother died and she assumed the responsibility of raising my siblings and I. At an early age, she made sure I understood how my decisions will dictate my life’s results. Being raised by an older person gave me certain wisdom and knowledge that I needed to tread a path that serves a diverse group of communities.
