We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcia Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was actually pretty straightforward. I was 23, and though I’d followed an affinity for art in high school and college, I realized my true calling was in supporting artists. So I opened a gallery—with almost no experience! It was absolutely the naivety of youth. If I’d waited until I was 33, I probably never would have done it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over four decades, the “why” and “how” of your work naturally shift—especially when your life and your business are deeply intertwined. But for me, the through-line has always been about relationships.

Relationships with extraordinary artists—uniquely gifted individuals who deserve to be seen, respected, and valued. I’ve always seen the gallery as a team effort—a space where we come together to tell artists’ stories and connect people through art.

And relationships with Atlanta’s beautiful community—vibrant, diverse, and passionate—whose support and spirit inspire me every day to be, as my fabulous mother Sally always said, “a soldier for beauty.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The artists—100%, always. And as we all know, there’s no such thing as a self-made person. From the very beginning to now and into the future, there are countless people whose encouragement, collaboration, and support—both big and small—are the reason this gallery exists.
