We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcia Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Let me start by saying that I never saw myself as an entrepreneur growing up even though my father was one. In our home, we were taught to go to school, get good grades, work for someone else and retire.

And although that was how my journey started, my life pivoted in 2020.

My business was birthed from my financial breakthrough.

To give context, I worked in banking for 10 years. However, I was not stewarding my money well and this became evident when I gave money to someone in need and recognized that I had to wait for my next paycheck.

This prompted an immediate conversation with God and I asked Him if he could give me more money so that when I give, it would be from abundance and not lack.

The reply to me was, you don’t need more money you need to steward what I have given you better.

Ouch!

So from that day in January 2018, I learned all I could about financial literacy through books, podcasts, online communities and I started managing my money using biblical wealth principles.

The following year in March 2019, I became debt-free. I was able to pay off a 4-year loan in one year.

Moreover, I had savings in my bank account which included my emergency fund.

Getting right with my finances changed my thinking, my approach to life, my relationships, how I showed up at my job and caused me to think a lot about my future.

One act of giving opened the solution to be financially empowered.

When I look back, God really did give me more money. He released me from the burden of debt!

I decided that I couldn’t just stop there because there are other women going through something similar.

When I was trying to think of a business name, God quietly said, A Purpose Life.

At that time the name made no sense to me… I didn’t get the revelation until after.

However, I was still obedient and in January 2020, I registered the business and enrolled my first 8 clients that same year.

Seeing the transformation in the lives of my clients was confirmation that this was what I was called to do, that is, to heal money relationships so that women could live life unapologetically and create generational wealth while doing so.

My business is my ministry.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My business A Purpose Life was founded in January 2020. It is a financial coaching and consulting firm that caters specifically to women. I help liberate women in their finances and position them for global impact by redefining their money relationships to create generational wealth.

Many in the financial literacy space address the secondary symptoms of money mismanagement such as overspending, living beyond your means, high consumer debt, and lack of retirement planning to name a few.

What sets me apart is that I look at finances from a holistic view which includes identifying the money wound (root issue) that causes those symptoms.

A Purpose Life not only looks at your finances but also enriches your life because we understand that having a relationship with money is not only mathematical but it’s behavioral.

My excitement will always be seeing the transformation of my clients. My clients collectively have been able to repay to date over $80,000 in debt. Marriages became stronger, some women pursued further education, others were able to apply for new jobs and the list goes on.

Overall they’re now in the driver’s seat of life and have more peace about their future.

My path to entrepreneurship wasn’t easy in the beginning. My former employer closed its doors in 2020 and transitioning from an employee to an entrepreneurial mindset was not easy.

Because if your mind isn’t right, your actions wouldn’t produce good fruit.

So I leaned on other coaches to help me navigate this new world through content, messaging, marketing & sales to help me hone in on who I wanted to serve, what I wanted to offer, and the transformation I wanted to provide.

Definitely, the main lesson was getting focused. At the beginning of my journey, I was scattered mentally which caused burnout and overwhelm.

Therefore, I stripped everything away and just focused on One Offer, One Ideal Client, One Problem, One Result.

This improved my process, strategy, and vision.

I want the world to know that it is not how you start but how you finish.

Every time I share my gift with the world I am breaking generational cycles.

Life is not meant to be done alone, so make sure you surround yourself with like-minded people. Persons that can stretch you and open your mind to new levels of thinking.

Remember, the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Barbados as a whole is so rich in culture.  If I wanted to show a friend a good time, we’d hit some of these spots below:

The Railway at St. Nicholas Abbey. This includes the Heritage Railway and Heritage & Rum Tour of the Abbey… rich in history

Most definitely, the Animal Flow Cave & Restaurant: it’s the oldest attraction in Barbados with a cliff-top, open-air restaurant. It has an accessible ocean cave with steps leading inside a coral floor and natural rock pools. Truly memorizing…

Harrison’s Cave Eco-Adventure Outpost; if you love adventure, this is it – Buckle up and get ready for their Signature Tram Tour! See picturesque views of running streams, waterfalls, and magnificent stalactite and stalagmite formations. It’s an all-inclusive Barbadian experience.

You can’t come to Barbados and not experience Chefette. It is the leading family-owned Barbadian company which has 15 locations and you can’t experience their dining anywhere else in the world.

and lastly but by no means least, Oistins which is a hive of nightlife entertainment. From grilled or fried fish, pork or chicken, fries, salad, and beverages all the while listening to Caribbean music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I want to give a shout-out to The Mompreneur CEO, Dionne Greaves.

I remember asking God to send people in my life that celebrated me for who I am, flaws included and not just what I am able to provide them and she is that person.

We attended the same secondary school but were not acquainted at the time but since then, she was the one God sent to run with my vision.

And in your entrepreneurial journey, you need someone you can run with.

Dionne provides support in so many ways but the one function I am truly grateful for is her prayers. They have sustained me, held me up, and invigorated me to be who I am today.
