We had the good fortune of connecting with Marci Saunders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marci, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Simply believing I could. It sounds cliche however as a single mom believing in myself and my abilities as a provider is key in anything I do and pursue. It provides me with strength when I am rejected over and over again because rejection is 98% of being a business owner. Confidence knowing that despite rejection in my past I still have accomplished so much and will continue to accomplish even more.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a portrait photographer, and being in an industry that may seem over-saturated the one thing that separates me apart from others is me. The experience and relationship my clients build with me are like no other because there is only one me simply put. I am excited that I am able to capture moments in life that can be held for more than a lifetime. What I provide is timeless. I received my degree in fine art photography from Georgia Southern University in 2006 however I quickly learned that knowing how to take a nice picture was only about 5% of owning a photography business. It was a lot of crawling that I had to do when learning about how to market, manage, and run a business. I will honestly say there are a lot of things I am still learning. One thing I have learned over time is to remain open to learning from everyone. Seasoned photographers and new photographers every person’s journey adds value to your own journey if you are open to it. Every moment deserves to be captured despite being at a low or a high. All moments of life create an absolutely beautiful life. One thing I hope all my clients walk away feeling is, that every moment deserves to be captured despite being at a low or a high. All moments of life create an absolutely beautiful life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in Atlanta right now is Midtown all the way to Ponce City Park. There is such a variety of places to eat, and things to see and explore. However, to stay in the city for a week as an introvert I would not be able to do as there are just too many people in such a small area. For a visit, however, Midtown is my go-to spot.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give my shout to my girls. The three people that I birthed into this world. These people are my greatest supporters and cheerleaders, and most importantly they are so incredibly patient with me. I owe them the world. They are the backbone of the business and honestly of me. They have taught me, stretched me, and broken me. I am thankful for who I am because of them. My story wouldn’t be the same without them and I mean that is the best way.
