We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Hawk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
This is such a profound question. Professionally, my ultimate goal is to cultivate a sense of peace and fulfillment in my career journey. By the end of my career, I aspire to establish myself as a reputable attorney specializing in entertainment law. I envision founding my own law firm that not only offers legal services but also serves as a global enterprise that employs publicists, sports agents, and attorneys. Ultimately, my vision is to create a professional legacy that champions employing people of color in these fields, which we often do not get opportunities in.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I used to always have trouble differentiating my jobs from my ‘career’. It wasn’t until I worked my second or third political campaign that I realized my career was that of a public servant. I’ve been a public servant my entire life in several capacities: as a volunteer in church, as a cashier and ice maker at Dairy Queen, as a political campaign director, and as a congressional staffer.

My journey as a public servant is driven by my passion for positive change. What sets me apart is my deep sense of purpose, guided by the belief that my mission transcends personal ambitions. I eagerly anticipate serving the public, guided by God’s unchanging hands, especially as a lawyer advocating for justice and equity.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Recently, on my first solo trip to Mexico, I had a profound realization about the importance of continuous reflection and finding sanctuary. I want to dedicate this shoutout to Preston G. Foster, MPA, Director of Public Policy at Oakwood University, for his guidance and mentorship, as well as to the History and Political Science department at Oakwood and all of my professors.

Additionally, I express deep gratitude to my grandmother, Rene Jackson, for her support, prayers, and belief in me. She has always been there, providing guidance and reminding me of my potential. Thanks to her and the sacrifices of my ancestors, I am able to walk the halls of Congress today, a testament to their enduring legacy.

Preston G. Foster, my grandmother Rene Jackson, and the Oakwood University History and Political Science department have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. I am immensely grateful for their presence in my life and the profound impact they have had on my journey.
