We had the good fortune of connecting with Manswell T. Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Manswell T., what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success/success of my brand is that I go against the norm. I currrently write in several different genres. My most current is paranormal/sci-fi. I am the first black man to create an entire universe that will include 200 books. Within the universe, there is the Locrottum Academy, a series just for the kids & the rest is for adults.

Many in the publishing field told me I should use a pen name and not show that a black man created this universe. The sales would be better and people would gravitate to the series faster. As I looked into the eyes of my 10 year old son, I remember telling him that he could be anything that he wants to be & never be afraid of failure.

This is why being myself and using my storytelling is the most important factor behind my success/the success of my brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of and excited about future books, future movies, & T.V. Shows. The excitement of readers as they e-mail me or talk to me in person and tell me they can’t wait for the movie or T.V. Show to come from a certain book is heart warming.

It was not easy at all. As a child, I had a love for reading and writing but could not get to the public library or get writing supplies because we could not afford it. My mom’s drug addiction prevented all of this, but the passion inside of me was still there. My language arts teacher would provide me with books and supplies for writing. Moving back and forth between Albany, Ga & Atlanta GA allowed me to interact with different teachers who pushed me to become a better writer.

The lessons that I have learned along the way are (1) keep writing; (2) Always smile; (3) You attract more with honey than you do with vinegar; and (4) You never know who is watching or reading your material.

I want the world to know and especially kids that even though I was evicted several times, homeless, ate out of trash can, and wanted to die, I overcame it all. This is because God had a plan for me. This is part of my biography, ‘Tracks of My Tears’, that I share with people all over the country.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place that I would take them to eat would be “The Rib Shack”. They some of the most delicious St. Louis ribs and baked beans you will ever taste in your life.

For a special desert treat, they must go to KIngscorn with over 50 different favors of popcorn. They will leave with a pure euphoria.

In Atlanta, it’s a guaranteed trip to the Varsity for a chilli dog and onion rings.

In Abany, one of 2 places that I would take them would be the Flint River Aquarium, the Albany Museum of Art. and the Ray Charles Memorial Park.

In Atlanta, I would take them to the World Coca-Cola Museum.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is definitely going to my readers. My books are being read in six different countries and 20 different states. Without my readers telling their family, friends, and co-workers, I would not be where I am today.
