Meet Mani Monroe

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mani Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mani, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’m constantly taking risk. Risks has gotten me to where I am and will continue to get me where I want to go. I left my job to start a hair company at 23. Then at 25 I took a huge risk by leaving my family and everyone I know to move to Atlanta. Once I feel complacent it’s time to make a change and that often requires taking a risk. I literally just left my last job to pursue my new journey as a Journalist. I am now a mom and I will be getting married this September, none of this would have come into fruition without just going for it and trusting the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So honestly I’m just getting into this journalism game, and babyyyy, it’s a whole new world! Like, I’ve always had a lot to say , but now I’m learning how to actually say it with purpose, power, and a lil’ more professionalism okay?!
It’s honestly exciting, I’m in rooms & certain spaces with big names just trying to find my lane. I’ve gotten a leg up with my homeboy FreddyO who’s very well known in the industry, shout out to him! He’s such a selfless guy, very unlikely form people on his level. Wouldn’t say its been easy but I’m very optimistic, just staying positive and trusting God. My platform is called Shoot the Messengr where I’m uncovering stories, asking the right questions, and realizing there’s a lot more to this than just talking cute and typing fast. Whew! But I’m loving the challenge. I’m soaking it all up like because I might be new, but trust I’m coming for bylines, headlines, and front-page moments. Stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I stay in Atlanta and everyday can be a turnup. I love that It’s different strokes for different folks, if you’re looking for something cute and boujie I feel like Pera is aesthetically pleasing for the photos and sitting pretty but can be pricy. However, if you looking for an Outsiddeee experience Teranga City is the place to be! The prices are really reasonable and a fun time, it has a cute patio, good hookah and food. Birthday is at Nobu obviously lol. Date night is giving Marcel steakhouse or Hals. Prime on Peachtree is cute especially location wise right there in the heart of midtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has always made me feel like I could do whatever I wanted to do in life. My upbringing was not the best and typically In poor conditions there’s a lot of negativity and discouragement. My mom made sure I knew how special I was and how id impact the world. I’m so blessed to have her as a mom and I don’t know where I’d be without her.
