We had the good fortune of connecting with Makaila Parson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makaila, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my business to recover my schedule. Working a 9-5 was not working out for my family or me; attempting to balance everyone’s schedule, give 100% at work, and have a personal life. Stepping out on my own was scary but completely worth it. I sat down, created a plan, wrote out my goals, and took a leap of faith one day. I knew that if I worked this hard for someone else, I would work hard for myself and reap its benefits.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always heard real estate can be a tricky field; the test is complex, and the market is over-saturated. Well, I ignored all that and went after it anyway. With a background in cosmetics, I knew I liked to help people. And what better way to help than finding a place to call home? Everyone needs a home. As I got into the field more, I realized I also enjoyed the beauty of real estate; the architecture, the endless possibility of a fixer-upper, the charm of an older home.

Being in the cosmetic field for over 17 years and being a professional makeup artist, you learn to work closely with people, hear what they are trying to say verse what is being said, and be able to balance multiple clients and jobs at once, all of these skills have come in especially handy in Real Estate.

I would say my most significant strength is I am incredibly detailed oriented. I consistently pay close attention to all the specifics in a job or a task, honing in on the precise details to ensure everything is done correctly. I believe this is an excellent skill whether I’m helping you buy a home, sell yours, shop for an investment property, or doing your makeup!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to be outdoors! Atlanta is great because we have the city and nature all in one. I love to visit the Marietta square; you can grab a coffee or a bubble tea, walk around, do some shopping and enjoy the scenery. The food is fantastic at the Marietta Market Place. When we visit, I always see more than one vendor.

The Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta are a must on the list. Our Aquarium is unbeatable, and I could spend the entire day at the zoo, feeding the giraffes and checking out all the animals.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner would be my biggest supporter/motivator. He told me to start my own business for years, “work for yourself; you’re so smart and talented, you’ve got this!” Sometimes I think he believed in me more than I believed in myself. If it wasn’t for him and seeing the success he’s accomplished in his business, I don’t think I would have ever stepped out on my own.

My coworkers at my previous job were also such motivators! I believe because we went through the same challenges daily and felt the same pressures and stress, we all stuck together so close. Janay Cheek has been such a great friend and cheerleader; even though she is states away, she’s always only a text or phone call away. It means so much when a coworker turned friend is always hyping you up, reposting your work or marketing, and giving you referrals. “Its UP from here”
