We had the good fortune of connecting with Major (Ret) Henry H Washington, III PH.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Major (Ret) Henry H, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision that I made that contributed to my success was being able to service people. I find joy in educating, mentoring and helping solve crisis. This is my purpose!

What should our readers know about your business?
The HW3 Foundation and the Divine Leadership Mentoring Program is a broad-based community non-profit organization based here in McDonough Georgia since 2019. We focus on men’s health, youth empowerment and veterans helping veterans homelessness. We are different from other organizations because we have a multitude of military, law enforcement, counselors and educators that educate and mentor our clientele. We are most proud of our 98% success rate of youth going to college, the military and/or entrepreneurship, 100% of men getting checked annually and 100% success rate of veterans finding jobs and a home. Through the grace of God we have been able to sustain our program through donors, sponsors and investors. I want everyone to know that life is full of trials and tribulations it is just a matter of what you do to overcome and how you learn from your experiences.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to Katz Cafe for good food, drinks, music and spoken word.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to personally thank my entire village in Thomasville, Georgia. If it wasn’t for my village I would not be in a stable position today.
