We had the good fortune of connecting with Majeedah Giddens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Majeedah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always known that entrepreneurship was for me. I remember being a kid living in Compton, California. I would try to sell avocados from my avocado tree to the people in my neighborhood. I knew at a very young age that being in control of my own financial future was necessary for me to truly be successful. As a single mother of two daughters, having a traditional 9-5 was very difficult and honestly didn’t make much sense for me. I could never find a job that paid decently that didn’t require me to work long hours away from my children. Finding consistent childcare that didn’t cost a good majority of my paycheck was equally difficult as well. I was terminated on a few occasions due to schools closing for inclement weather or my kids being sick, causing me to call out of work at the last minute. Jobs never cared about what “real life, single mother” issues I was experiencing. I realized that if I wanted to be successful i had to work for myself. Truth be told, i was pushed into owning my own business because I knew id never fire myself because i had to be a mother to my children first. My goal was to create a business that gave me the freedom I needed. I needed a business that allowed me to make great money and not be reprimanded for being a mother to my children. As an aesthetician i am able to work for myself and control my own schedule. I am able to be as creative as i want with my services. I finally found a career that allows me to put my kids first and also be creative while making money.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At MJ Scenic City Aesthetics I takes pride in offering my clients quality services with the highest quality products available. Being licensed in two states and taking countless hours of continued training in advanced techniques helps ensure my clients receive the most up to date services available. As a former model i developed a love for Esthetics at a young age and wanted to make people feel beautiful. MJ Scenic City Aesthetics takes pride in safely accentuating the natural beauty of clients.

Id like to thank my family, mentors and team of advisors. A special thanks to my daughters Star and Sanari for pushing me to find my purpose.
