We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahogany Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mahogany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always knew I wanted to work for myself and become my own boss just didn’t know where to start. When i attended Elaine sterling institute my main focus was to learn how to do makeup because I wanted to to become a makeup artist and thought this would be the best way to do it by being licensed. I quickly gravitated towards waxing through the different levels in school. I loved everything about it that I would always practice on my classmates and volunteer to take clients on spa days.
Even though I loved waxing once I graduated from Esthetics school I didn’t know where to start, I created my business out of excitement but was still so lost. So I went and worked at a waxing center for about 2 years, they taught me how to go out to different areas to market and how to interact with clients because I was so nervous when I first started. Then, when the pandemic hit and we had to close down for awhile. I just felt this was my chance to focus and rebrand myself. I began to invest everything into Haus of Beauty, I got cards made and flyers put into places to market and attract clientele. I created a relaxing space for my clients to come and enjoy themselves. Once I put my best self out there and learned to balance my life and business I began to see results.
Haus of Beauty is a place women can come and to just feel comfortable while getting serviced. I want women to feel beautiful in the skin their in and help them improve their skin care. I also learned along the way its not always about staying booked and busy but more so creating a loyal clientele that would eventually grow.
Its not a race its a marathon!
What should our readers know about your business?
Haus of Beauty was a name I came up with to where it wouldn’t limit the things I wanted to venture out and try in the esthetics world! The beauty industry is evolving and changing so much each and everyday. So my business name allows me to grow as well as be able to learn new things, and if I felt it was for me i could eventually add it on to my services.
It hasn’t been easy starting or even growing my business. People always show the beauty and success that comes from their business never the trials it took to get there. My biggest challenge was staying consistent but once you focus on that factor in your business everything else falls into place. The most important lesson I learn along the way is there is no shortcuts you have to put in the work and believe in yourself. I live by my favorite affirmation work hard, pray harder.
I’m so excited to just grow each and everyday because running a business isn’t for everyone you have to have tunnel vision and discipline yourself if this is something you really want. So if you’re ever in the Peachtree corners area or looking to get serviced I’m here for all your waxing and lash needs!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting I would want to take them somewhere we could eat and enjoy good music which isn’t hard to find here. Atlanta has so many options and things to do its never ending. So I don’t think that I can just decide on one thing, Good thing most of my friends live here. We love to take turns doing girls night where we find different things to do, I would say so far karaoke is one of my favorites. You can’t go wrong you have the food, fun & music all in one.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I Iove the saying “It takes a village” because without my family and friends I don’t know where I would be. I’m really grateful simply because I never have to ask of anything through all my trials they support me, and when I’m in doubt they encourage me to keep going. I love that even some of my friends run businesses as well, so its so comforting knowing that I have boss friends to talk with and share ideas. Just feeling that you aren’t alone and have people going through the same trials and tribulations as you makes the journey alittle more exciting. Also, I cant forget my clients, future and present for trusting me and choosing me to be there Esthetician. I honestly don’t know where I would be without them.
