We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahlon West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mahlon, what are you inspired by?
The meaning behind Basement Boy is to embrace life’s lowest points because it is ultimately what we go through that molds us into the person we become. I want to create clothing that will
inspire youth around the world to follow their dreams no matter what.
Despite the hardships we all will face in life, Basement Boy reminds us that we shouldn’t quit but
rather embrace the challenge to build up great character.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Basement Boy is not a person but rather an experience. Basement Boy University's irony is that it highlights the knowledge not taught in formal school but rather the life lessons learned on your
journey to success. The struggle of no guidance and no teachers is what makes us. The street
knowledge. The grit. The failures. It’s about learning your way of surviving and navigating this
world. It's the connection to that journey. It’s the one type of education that you can’t pay for
because it comes from experience. Basement Boy University is for the self-taught and
represents people from all walks of life. We represent the young, bold and courageous.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are coming to Atlanta then you have to stop and grab some wings. My personal favorite spot is Wings R Us on Whitehall St. My favorite order is a 10 PC crispy lemon pepper all flats
with ranch dressing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout-out to my parents for believing in everything that I do and for instilling a strong work ethic in me from a young age. They have played such an important role in who I am
today and I want them to know I appreciate them. I want to also recognize them for providing me with career and business mentorship that has helped me navigate my professional career.
