We had the good fortune of connecting with Madisen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madisen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Snackbetch really came from a personal passion. I’ve always loved snacks and trying new things, and I found myself constantly sharing cool food finds with my friends and family. Eventually, I thought, why not put it all in one place? I started a page just for fun, and it quickly became clear that other people shared that same love for snacks and food culture. From there, it grew into something much bigger—a community where people can discover, enjoy, and connect over the same excitement I’ve always had.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things I’m most proud of with Snackbetch is that I’ve always stayed true to a specific style and been consistent with my posting. That consistency has really helped me grow and build trust with my audience. At the same time, I’ve always tried to keep things fresh and different so Snackbetch stands out. Beyond daily static posts, I share story content from my day-to-day and run interactive series like ‘Unpopular Food Opinions’ and ‘This or That,’ where followers get to submit their own questions that I feature twice a week. I think creating that kind of back-and-forth with the community is what makes the page feel less like a feed and more like a conversation.

Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. One of the biggest challenges has been work-life balance. Running Snackbetch is a full-time commitment in itself, but I also have a full-time career at a company I’ve been with for over 10 years, plus my family life. Balancing all of that can be tough, but I’ve learned to stay organized, lean on support when I need it, and remind myself why I started in the first place—because I truly love sharing food and building this community.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that passion plus consistency can take you far. If you’re excited about what you’re creating, others will be too. What I want people to know about Snackbetch is that it’s not just about snacks—it’s about connection, joy, and celebrating the little things that bring people together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d definitely make it all about food. We’d hit the Ferry Building in San Francisco for coffee, cheese, and ice cream, then wander Chinatown for dim sum and North Beach for pizza or pasta. I’d take them over to Oakland for tacos and a stop at Fentons Creamery, and then up to Napa for wine and cheese. Down in the South Bay we’d eat our way through pho, ramen, and Filipino food, and in Berkeley we’d hit all the favorite food stops. We’d wrap it all up with a coastal day in Half Moon Bay—clam chowder in a bread bowl and a beach sunset. The Bay is such a foodie paradise that a week barely scratches the surface.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As cliché as it may sound, my shoutout absolutely goes to my family. They’ve been supportive from the very beginning—encouraging me to pursue something I’m passionate about and cheering me on every step of the way. Knowing they were excited to see me doing something I loved gave me the confidence to keep going, and that support has been such a huge part of Snackbetch’s journey
