Meet Madilynn Beck | Founder & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madilynn Beck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madilynn, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing that industry outsiders are probably unaware of is virtual health is like the Wild West. While the system of healthcare in America has been around seemingly forever, the integration of technology and more specifically AI (artificial intelligence), is a rapidly evolving frontier.
Starting in the 70’s identifying blood infections, AI has grown to make diagnostic assumptions for clinicians, even going as far as gaining access to otherwise confidential sessions and generating treatment notes on behalf of the practitioner. While the FDA approved it’s first cloud-based app in 2017 for physical use, the governing boards of behavioral sciences have yet to release an accreditation process for emerging tech in an intellectual or cognitive use case. Essentially, the ethical compliance of various tech is at the mercy of the team creating it.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Better Spot is the only company building community where community exists, IRL and URL. We’re a holistic marketplace offering on-demand services and secure, online community, making integrative care accessible to everyone. It’s a very deliberate infrastructure rare to the wellness industry, that affords a comprehensive approach but comes with a significant strategic responsibility.
In 2017 life prompted me to reprioritize my mental health. I was so positively impacted by that work that I started my own journey to becoming a Psychotherapist while simultaneously being in treatment. Sitting in “both chairs” gave me a unique experience and provided 2.5 years of deep research of the problem and how to solve it. I realized the healthcare system isn’t broken at all, it was never created to be sustainable. No system that focuses on one side of the market, ever will be.
Being a founder isn’t easy, especially as one with a comprehensive solution in a sea of instant answers. I’ve learned that not everyone is going to understand what you’re building and that’s OK, cause at this stage you shouldn’t be building for everyone. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice to have glimmers of institutional validation along the way. Since expanding to the Atlanta ecosystem last winter we’ve had the honor of being selected for Zane Venture’s pre-accelerator, being a panelist for StartOut Growth Lab and most recently the newest portfolio company for Techstars Atlanta powered by Cox Enterprises.
But most importantly if the folks who share your problem believe what you’re creating is what they’ve been looking for then keep going. Just keep going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being so head down with amplifying The Better Spot, I still feel very much like a tourist, but I can confidently say I’m a proud Westsider. From Westside Provisions to Lee+White expansive hop head’s paradise, there’s no shortage of places to add to your favorites. And apparently the ATL experience has been on a fasttrack to change over the past decade, with the most recent years being radical growth.
As a nomad (Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles) and big city food fan the news of Atlanta’s Michelin Guide basically filled the duration of my summer calendar with the some of the best brightest getting the nods they deserve; Bacchanalia, Omakase Table and Marcus Bar and Grille, making moves as some of my newest tries and best experiences.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am wholly a product of my ecosystem and I’m grateful they all happen to be badass. My Advisory Council was created with deep intentionality. We have a uniquely full circle of expertise on our team and it’s directly led to my personal success and the overall success and trajectory of the company.
We’re a collection of traditional and alternative wellness providers, national securities technologists, exited tech founder, performance coaches and other thought leaders. They remind me that they chose their respective careers to make impacts based on their expertise and believe the vision of The Better Spot together can make the world a better place.
