We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Cole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I was constantly asked what I wanted to do with my life. Physical therapist, psychiatrist and neonatal nurse were my go-to responses to that question. Above all, I wanted to help people. From a very young age I understood that life is messy, and sometimes it’s really difficult. My dream was to make a living out of the desire to help anyone and everyone that I possibly could. I never in a million years thought that I would be a hairstylist, but yet here I am making a career out of helping people feel beautiful and confident, while having fun simultaneously.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a hairstylist that specializes in blonding, balayage, and sew-in extensions. I have worked with mentors, taken several continuing education courses, and more to get where I am today. That being said, this was not done without bad days. I believe that mistakes are opportunities to learn, especially in this industry. You have to take the bad days and use them as fuel to get better. Always, no matter what, try again. I want to make the people who sit in my chair feel just as beautiful on the outside as they do on the inside. In my opinion, getting your hair done is an act of self love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would absolutely take my friend to the Atlanta Beltline! One of my favorite places to explore is the Beltline Walls. I appreciate art in all forms and love seeing the latest additions, so. that would be a must-see. Rose Circle park is my favorite trail to walk as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Tracy Barth, also known as my mom. I would not be who I am without having my mom right by my side through the highs and lows that have presented themselves. I remember calling her while I was working as a receptionist at my first salon. I was struggling in college, working towards a career I didn’t really want. I asked if I could go to cosmetology school, and she agreed without hesitation. She has been there for the hard days, constant rants, and always offered me a helping hand. Not only would I not be the person I am, but I certainly would not be the hairstylist I am without her.
