We had the good fortune of connecting with M J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi M, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “Tough times don’t last, but, tough people do.” The reason I like this quote so much is because it is relatable. In the beauty industry, things may tend to slow up and income isn’t always consistent as I would like it to be. But, as long as I continue to believe in myself and keep my best foot forward, everything will fall in to place.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My glam style sets me apart from other artists. I often hear clients (new&old) say “I came across many different artists, but there is something about your work that just gets me.” I agree with them and that makes me feel great.

I am extremely excited about this next product that I will be adding to my brand within the next few months. I don’t want to speak on it just yet, but, it’s going to be amazing.

I got to where I am today by simply being myself. I never feel like I am too good to learn new things or take constructive criticism. I pride myself on my customer service skills and professionalism. This road that I decided to take has not been easy, but, it is super worth it. I don’t allow challenges to alter any that I have going on with my career. I face all things with an iron fist because I am always in control and nothing will ever be able to stop me.

The biggest lesson I have learned is consistency. Always believe in yourself and trust the process. Starting over 100 times does not mean failure. Keep going until you get to where you would like to be.

I want everyone to know that I am a young girl from Philadelphia. I didn’t grow up in the best neighborhoods, and I didn’t always make the best decisions. But none of these things will define who I am. I paved the way as a young and black makeup artist who is planning to take over!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, we would go shopping first to find something cute to wear for our outing. Afterwards, we would most likely head to my studio to get glammed up. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to food..so we may be a little indecisive when it comes to that part. We would head over to Copas for a greattttttttttt and I mean greattttttttt margarita. If you guys ever decide to come to Philly, please get a drink from Copas! We would end our night with bowling or a hookah lounge. One of my favorite places to hang is Penns Landing. The views are beautiful. You can hang here with friends or your significant other.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to God first. I am thankful for this talent and even more thankful that I’ve been able to build a career out of this. Next, shoutout to my clients. Without my clients, I would not be where I am today. The ladies that have been with me since my little home studio will forever hold a special place in my heart. Last but not least, shoutout to my parents, my friends and my boyfriend for keeping me grounded and supporting me 1000%.
