We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyric Abbott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After being rejected numerous times, by employers stating “I Didn’t Have Enough Experience To Qualify For The Job”, by being a recent college graduate. I decided to step back from social media & people and quit my 9-5s to create my business Graphic and web design business and become my own boss. My goal has always been reach financial freedom and change the negative narrative about graphic designers by providing consistent, honest service, with guaranteed turnaround times.

What should our readers know about your business?

While this being the 4th year in business for Visionary Palette and exceeded 6 figures. Thats what i’m most proud of. 90% of businesses fail within their first year. I’m blessed to have a consistent clientele. Im excited to launch new businesses in the future expanding the VP brand.

The journey was never easy, I overcame a lot of challenges. Being told no, a lot hurts your confidence and really makes you doubt, should I Quit? Or Am I worthy. But really it means it’s not meant for you at that time and something better will come along, timing is everything.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to trust my insinct, If it doesn’t feel right its not right. I have learned to always protect me and my business no matter what. Lastly. my favorite, Charge your worth. Your price is your price, do not let any pressure you to change it.

As for me, At birth, I suffered a brachial plexus injury (nerve damage) in my right and left arm, which resulted in my left arm recovering fully but affecting the growth and development of my right arm. Due to this condition, as I child I always felt left out and different from my peers. While in middle school, art became an outlet for me to take my attention off of negativity. I began drawing at the age of 11 but at the age of 13 I realized I was blessed with a talent and began to take my passion for art serious. My passion later became something difficult to do due to my left hand continuously experiencing vicious cramps. Because of this, I decided to learn how to utilize programs such as Adobe, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The use of these programs became my pencil and paper and that is where I continue to flourish. I have now grown confident in my ability to create, however, I truly believe there will always be room to grow. I am constantly seeking new opportunities to enhance my skills as I continue to grow as a graphic designer.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh Where do I Start. We would make hotel reservations at The W or Atlanta Marquis. Brunch is at botica or atlanta breakfast club. Dinner would be at Mary Macs tea room or ecco. For Activities the aquarium, world of coca cola, And shopping in the surround areas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, I couldn’t be where I am today without my parents and my ancestors who taught them the foundation of taking risks, stability, independence, and dedication. I wouldn’t be able to balance everything that I do within running 2 businesses (client meetings, producing graphics, creating websites, social media marketing, inventory management) without discipline taught from my college prep high school, that taught me how to balance my School and personal life. Lastly, becoming a entrepreneur was very difficult when you have no experience nor mentors, google and youtube tutorials helped out a lot.
