We had the good fortune of connecting with Luna Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luna, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Listening and communicating.

Gentle parenting is so snubbed now a days for being interpreted as not strict enough. I absolutely think there is value in listening and communicating to your child. As a teen mom to a little baby girl, I was so nervous to take on such a huge responsibility but one thing I was sure of was that I wouldn’t resort to physical punishment. Me and her talk about everything and I try to always get her thoughts on anything that impacts her so she understands she is valued.

There is an innocence we forget about as we get older. They weren’t born knowing right from wrong. You can not expect them to just know what you want from them. I think it’s normal for her to question when I have a request of her. She just wants to know the why behind it. “Because I said so” is a very tempting phrase but as long as I remember that taking a couple seconds to explain as well as express myself appropriately, I know it will help mold her communication skills later.

She’s 8 now and she’s able to hold mature conversations better than most adults can. One of the things people comment on the most when meeting her is that they’re usually surprised by the level of maturity in the way she is able to express herself. She is always analyzing her decisions and is usually able to discern right from wrong. Safe to say this open conversation parenting is working thus far for us.

I think sometimes people are afraid of being their kid’s friend that they make sure to draw that line and sometimes it’s a bit too harsh of a line. Personally I feel a good balance is achievable. I want to be someone she can trust and that she is confident is always going to be there for her. Fingers crossed it works in the teenage years too!

What should our readers know about your business?
2022 has definitely been a memorable year with just finally being able to dedicate the time my business deserved. I owed it to myself to at least try to do my business justice. It hasn’t been easy, I’ve had plenty of obstacles and still do. My whole heart is in my business but time wise, I’m just still not there yet. There is always room to grow, room for improvement and I try as much as possible to learn from the pros in the industry and constantly try new techniques with my clients.

What I would say I’m most proud of since I work mostly in the bridal industry, is making sure that each one of my brides feels so incredibly special, I have to remember that everyday that I show up for work is someone’s special day and must be memorable and I want to make certain my clients feel that too. I am there for them and only want to make sure that i’ve done everything I can to contribute to the glowing memory that is their wedding day.

I’ve learned this business is so rewarding. Whenever someone asks why did you choose to be a makeup artist I always say the same thing, this isn’t work for me, while I’m in it I forget that I’m even working. I’m so thankful someone looked at my work and felt I aligned with their vision and saw me as being fit for their once in a lifetime day. How could I not want to put my all into it when that’s in my head !?

I just want everyone to know that I appreciate you even visiting my page and scrolling through. A like on a picture, a DM to book, it’s such an amazing feeling to know someone was considering having me do their makeup. I truly love what I do and I only wish I could do this everyday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta’s got so much more then just the top 10 places to visit on trip advisor , i.e. the aquarium and the coca cola factory. Nothing wrong with that but really I’d say the beltline. I still meet people that don’t know about it!

We’re starting the morning at Virginia Highlands at the highland bakery, take a day to ride bikes on the belt line, stop at ponce and do a bit of retail therapy. Make our way on over to playa bowls on Auburn ave. and Nina and Rafi’s for the best pizza on the beltline. Puttshack for some entertainment and then back on the beltline to finish the day at Buena Vidas for tapas style food!

Some worthy mentions are Good Game at the Battery and PBR for a drink after. Hop on tiktok if you need some help and look up atlbucketlist. You can find ANYTHING in Atlanta.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Ricky.

I get to gloat and I will not hold back. We’ve been married almost 4 years but this man has made sure since day one he supported me. He knew I wasn’t happy in my line of work and has always pushed me gently to reach for me. I’ve only got him to thank for finally being able to dedicate time to my business. .

Last year he noticed something needed to change to help me mentally and he sat me down and talked to me about a 6 month plan. This plan included me quitting my job in 6 months, I didn’t think financially that was even possible in that amount of time. Along with a few other steps he set this plan into motion for me.

December 2021 was when my 6 months were up. It’s also when I quit my corporate job thanks to him. He worked his butt off for a promotion to get ME closer to my dream. He’s taken on being a soccer dad, toting our kids to and from sitters, sacrificing his Saturday mornings, etc. He researches what pros in my industry are using and knows what I need before I do. Usually my next birthday or Christmas, it’s being gifted to me. The amount of duties he’s taken on at home I can’t even count. He even got me into a new job that is so flexible that it allows me time to do what I love!

I feel so guilty having all this time for myself now because of him so naturally I don’t hang out with my friends anymore right ? Wrong. He makes sure I get to spend time with them so I still get a break from the craziness I have going on. Even with that I still come home and get pampered by him. Honestly, I married the most selfless man on this planet, so this is for you babes!
