We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always been fascinated by anything pertaining to photography. I learned how to take screenshots from my Ipod Touch, my first device without a camera. Once I learned to screen shot, I started editing random photos from safari, something I really enjoyed. I then had an Ipad with a camera and I just went all out. I had a few editing apps and took so many photos on it, and my love for photography grew from there. In 2015, my mom passed away from cancer, and I used photography as an outlet for self-expression and sharing my perspective on the world. I was contacted on Instagram by one of my high school classmates asking if I could do a photo shoot for him, I said “sure”, I think I charged him about $25 for the session. In the end, he loved the photos, as did other people on my Instagram account, and I turned my passion into a business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a freelance photographer, but I’ve also begun to get into videography/cinematography. I am well aware that I can set myself apart from other creatives, I just do not know how to communicate this to others yet – that would be something my clients could tell others about. Having grown so much in this industry and having so much room to grow is what excites me the most. My journey to where I am today took time and a lot of effort. I had to learn how to be less antisocial than I once was, and no, it wasn’t easy at first. I love roller skating and I was among the best at my home rink with my friends. That, along with the chance to meet people I hadn’t met before, contributed greatly to me overcoming my antisocialism problem. There are those who won’t like your work, you have to say no to those who ask for free sessions because they do not support you or your work, haters follow you more than supporters, and most importantly, you must ensure that you are mentally healthy. I want the world to know that this brand was not only about making money, but also about capturing memories, changing lives, and always supporting those who deserve it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start out by going to piedmont park, maybe play some frisbee, and bring some fish and burgers for lunch or dinner to grill. Also, I would take them to the metro café diner, you never know what’s going to happen there at night. We would go bowling at Bowlero and play golf at top golf. I would take them to Lake Acworth Beach to relax, and then I might invite another friend over for a get-together. Additionally, I would also take them to an escape room, after which we would head over to the Lenox mall. We would eat almost all our dinners at my house, and we would skate on Friday or Saturday night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Starting off with my mom, she deserves a big shout out. After she passed away, I lost myself and it took me a while to find my way. As soon as I did, I realized it was nothing more than making her proud of me even though she was not here. It was a challenge, but then I realized all our parents want is for us to be happy and follow our dreams. The biggest reason why I was willing to take the risk of turning my passion into a business was because of her. As for my high school, I would feel stupid for not giving them any credit because even though I did not make “lifelong friends”, it was there where I received some of my biggest supports and met amazing people. I also have my vice principle, the student government executive teams from 2017-2020, the yearbook staff from 2017-2020, my graphic and design teacher, and my sophomore year math teacher to thank for my current success.
