We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start the company I wish existed when I was building my law firm. There are many coaching companies in the law firm building space and many of them help hundreds if not thousands of lawyers across the country. But few of them are led by lawyers who have actually built a law firm. I want to provide a business that was more geared to sharing the practical side of building a law firm and not the theory of building a business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
8 Figure Firm consulting is a Coaching/Consulting business that was started by lawyers for lawyers. Its a unique take on the consulting space because me and my business partner actively work in our business and are still heavily committed to growing our law practice. Many of the outfits that would be considered competitors have never built a law firm and are not even lawyers. So that really sets us apart. We provide operational guidance on tried and true operating tactics not just theory. We help law firm owners see the possibility and not settle for what society tells them they should accept. We have an entire policies and procedures writing program and we lend marketing support using known marketing concepts that have worked for us. its cliche to say that hard work is how I got to where I am today. But that is partly true. The other part was a commitment to improvement. Many times people undervalue the importance of constantly improving. That is what streamlines growth for you personally and also professionally. It hasn’t been easy. I have read 100’s of books and attended dozens of conferences. Not to make more money but to increase my own personal value. That has resulted ultimately in more money. The lessons I have learned along the way is that 50% of the time you will feel great about what you are doing. The other 50% of the time you will doubt what you are doing. But regardless of how you feel, 100% of the time you must keep your vision alive and stay committed to execution of your plan. Never quit on your dream no matter how hard it may be today. I want the world to know that we have a mission to help 100 law firm owners achieve $10 million in volume revenue so that they can have a law business and not a law firm. So that they can have residual income through their business. So that they can go on vacation and attend their kids ball games . So that 100’s of thousands of lives are changed because of their work. We are committed to excellence in that way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have the perfect weekend planned for this. Honestly not even enough time to get it all done. I absolutely love Atlanta. There is so much to do. Unlike many people who shy away from the tourist areas, I love spending time in my city. First, they would arrive on Friday and I would take them to St. Cecilia for dinner. One of the best spots in Buckhead. The next morning we would do breakfast at the West Egg in Westside Provisions. Next we would walk Piedmont Park and up to Ponce City Market enjoying the weather and the skyline. We would stop for a couple of beers at New Realm Brewery and one of their amazing burgers with fries. From there we would head to prepare for Dinner and I would take them to Cooks and Soldiers for Wine and Tapas. We would finish the night at Cafe Intermezzo having some of their hand crafted desserts and coffees. The next morning we would head to the flying biscuit for breakfast and then a short trip to a Braves game for a warm hotdog in Aluminim foil. We would end the weekend at Umi Sushi. Wow what a weekend actually I need to plan this for myself. Favorite parts of town would be the Beltline, Atlanta United Games, The Aquarium/Coke Museum and probably Five Daughters Donuts! If you have time definitely take the drive to the Chatuea Elan, one of the best wineries in north Atlanta.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have played a huge role in the story of success. My dad was a big inspiration and mentor that helped me believe in myself when I faced doubt from others. In my 20’s I had a Judge, Michael Baird, who became a great mentor to me and now has become a great friend. My old law partners gave me my first shot at becoming a lawyer and allowing me to run the business for a couple of years. And lastly Seth Bader, my business partner and friend, who saw the potential I had inside for operating and scaling a law firm and brought me on to work alongside him as we built a multi 8 figure law firm and consulting business empire. Without all of these people in my life, I don’t believe I would be where I am today.
