We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Imery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Making sure that I am living in the moment and doing what I enjoy on a daily basis, rather than chasing something specific. I believe it’s easy to get caught up in negative things when working in the music industry, so I believe that if I keep doing what I like to do then I will be happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As far as my art goes, my main project currently is Pwdrd Donut. Through the alias of Pwdrd Donut, I am a Dubstep producer and DJ. In my opinion, I am still an up-and-coming artist in the Athens/Atlanta area. Professionally, I believe I am still in the early stages, but luckily in 2022, I have been building more traction. I would definitely say that there have been many challenges when it comes to trying to break into the music industry – which is highly competitive. When I was younger and just getting into music, I was a bit naive and thought that all it would take was to make a quick banger that would blow up, and then I could tour the world. I learned quickly that was not the case. After learning that, my main focus has been on working hard to create quality music, rather than just putting stuff out to see if something could blow up. This also bounces off of what I said earlier, where I am focusing on making music and DJing at the moment because it’s my passion and not because I want to chase something. When it comes to the Pwdrd Donut brand and what you can expect from my music and my shows, I love to play high energy EDM to get the people moving. For me, listening to music is about having fun and listening to something that you have never heard before that makes you say “WOW.” So, that is what I strive for in music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually live in Athens, GA, but Atlanta is definitely the place to be and where I like to go if I want to have some fun. One place that I commonly go to is Believe Music Hall. For the past few years, I have been going as a fan to see the biggest EDM DJs in the world and luckily, I have been getting opportunities to play there myself lately. I am also a huge Braves fan and baseball fan, so, I definitely make it a tradition of going to at least a couple games every year.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a lot of credit to Tweed Recording, where I was able to learn about recording, engineering, producing, and where I made connections with friends and mentors in the recording industry. I would also like to shout out German Hernandez (Outer Limit), who got me into DJing after I had already been producing my own music. And lastly, I would have to give a shoutout to all the people at Emerald Summers who have given me the chance to meet so many awesome people that are motivated and like-minded in a positive way. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of dope DJs through them.
