We had the good fortune of connecting with Lovinda Dabo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lovinda, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision that I made to contribute to my success thus far in my career had been to work through my dominate negative thought patterns that have held me back or slowed me down when networking with others. Working on my inner thoughts and taking ownership of the quality of my thoughts have allowed me to be fully present and not project false narratives as I try to navigate professional social interactions. I laugh out loud as I think of this because the mirror conversations Issa has in her show “Insecure” depicted very well how we can have two very different things playing out as we navigate the complexities of communicating with others. In conclusion, don’t assume or jump to conclusions. Ask for clarification and remain present and it will improve the quality of relationships you build both professionally and personally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my clinic is The Core Counseling Services. What makes me proud about being the founder of The Core Counseling is that I very simply get to do what I love and that makes my heart smile.

What sets our mental health clinic apart is that you will get a unique experience of being able to deep dive into all of your life (past and present) to break old patterns behaviorally or narratively, get out of survival mode, and live again!

Patience, consistency, networking, and accountability supported me in getting where I am today. This journey has not been easy and overcoming the challenges has taken prayer, trial/error, and communication ( when I don’t know something I ask for help).

The biggest lesson I have leaned from this journey is the importance of prayer and purpose and pouring into a like minded community of people that are small business owners and therapists.

What I want the world to know about my story is that it is essential to follow your passion and invest in it no matter what. Whatever you are good at expand on it and watch the growth!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! I would begin by taking my friend to Typhoon Texas- I enjoy being a big kid and what better way to beat the Texas heat than at the waterpark! Secondly, I would take them to listen to some live music; my favorite singer tends to sing at different places throughout the week so wherever she is at is where we would be! Shoutout to Marium Echo by the way, she is an amazing vocalist! Thirdly, I would take my friend to Harvest Kitchen and Bakery for breakfast and in the evening we would have dinner at The Warrick and Dakar Street Food; they are my favorite restaurants so far.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my beautiful mother. She is my everything!
