We had the good fortune of connecting with Lovell Gates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lovell, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Hey everyone, my name is Lovell Gates. I go by Blerd of Mouth on social media. I am 31 and from Roxbury, in Boston, MA. The area I grew up in, I was surrounded by other kids who loved, Dragon Ball, Outlaw Star. Blade etc. We would exchange toys, games, movies and later comics. At the same time, meeting up in the parks or streets of the area to act out our favorite scene’s from shows/movies or making up our own fights scenes. I remember being introduced to comics and Blade little while after my father passed. A family friend of ours was an editor for DC comics at the time, He would send me “Impulse Comics”(Barton Allen, part of the Flash family) , not only did this help distract me but also helped with an underlining reading comprehension ability. Then, i saw the movie Blade….From this point on, I was hooked. Not only dressing up as my favorite heroes constantly, no this was bad, it got to the point where my mom was embarrassed because I would always go outside dressed as Batman, Blade, Lu Kang or 007. From middle school until College I got more into theater and musicals, while also playing every sport I could in-between time. These would range from Track, Football, Basketball, Rugby and Martial Arts. This was when i was in the New England area, between Boston, MA and Henniker, NH for college. In NH I majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology due to my fascination with Detective like comic heroes and CIS shows (such as, batman, justice league, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Scooby doo to name a few). While at NEC (New England College) I joined the criminal justice club. In this Club we were able to sign up to take courses for CIS in Manchester, Nh and with S.W.AT. in Weare, NH. Wasn’t until I moved to Georgia and went to Kennesaw State University, that I got into doing YouTube shorts with various groups. Then about 3 years ago I started Blerd of Mouth Podcast and on Instagram cosplaying. That is when February of 2021 came and so did the opportunities. After interviewing another youtuber Open Gate Studios on my channel. He introduced me to another director who was shooting demo fight reels. I had to do it. I signed up, learned the choreography and shot my first Fight Scene with Spiike G. I was so excited. After the thrill of participating in something that i have been dreaming of since I saw Blade, i wanted to do more…Be more. Again i was introduced to another door, Atl Stunts. This is where I have been able to hone my skills and pick up new ones such as work wire, Bo Staff, Fight Choreography for the camera and proper falls. It has been a blast!

I have greatly been supported by family (immediate and distant) as well as friends (domestic and foreign), to purse this type of dream. While also pushing me to pass the limits I didn’t think I could. I feel like everything I have done and the people I have met in the past have inadvertently prepared me for this path of life. This living dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As someone who is finding his way through the entertainment industry, I feel that my charisma, imagination and ability to mimic what I see and hear are what set me apart from others. Getting where I am was not and is not easy, the amount of work put in this, is what I have received and because I want more, I need to work even harder. One of the biggest lessons I learned, is that it is ok to ask for help. What I want people to know is that although you have dreams, life will throw obstacles at you. Use these obstacles to strength your mind and strength your body. Be the hero you want to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends come in, first we will go to Dr. No’s comics in Marietta. Then down to the beltline for food and/or drinks. while also showing them the art work around the way and rollerblading and biking. The next day I would take them down to Little 5 points for lunch at the vortex, after we would go to Stoddard’s Gun Range in Midtown. For up coming morning we would go to Cochran Shoals Trail in Marietta after breakfast at First watch in Kennesaw. There we will go rafting down the Chattahoochee River on rafts. That night we will head to Joystick, in Edgewood, as well as checking out the surrounding bars,
