We had the good fortune of connecting with Love Atiya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Love Atiya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ethereal by Love Atiya was created from my trauma and as we know, healing can come from trauma.

When I was 17 years old I had a horrible experience at a beauty salon that left me with balding edges. Of course, this took a major toll on my confidence and I actively began searching for a way to heal this.

Little did I know, healing my edges and my self esteem at the age of 17 would throw me into owning a self love company a few years later!

The process began again when I couldn’t find a hair product in the beauty supply stores that worked for me, my hair is 4C which means it requires a different kind of care and that’s when I decided to create the same oil that helped me maintain my hair when I was a teenager.

My business Ethereal by Love Atiya went from having one product, my Ethereal Hair Growth Oil, to almost 15 skin and hair healing products within a matter of four years!

Another part of my process has been making sure that all of my products are vegan and cruelty free. Cruelty free to me, means no animal testing is involved in the making of my products but it also means no human cruelty takes place!

I remember I used to have a personal stash of bentonite clay and one day I read the ingredients on a jar i’d purchased and saw it may contain lead. Lead and human skin do not go hand and hand.

This was the start of me doing extensive research and eventually premiering my Rhassoul Clay & Turmeric Healing Mask!

I’ve been a business owner since I was 4 years old and am a fourth generation woman entrepreneur so I definitely feel like owning a business has been in my bones since birth. I wasn’t created to work for someone other than myself and I love that.

What should our readers know about your business?
The main thing that sets me apart from the rest is that I pride myself on being a sustainable and conscious company.

For example, after I learned that a clay I was using for personal use from another brand had lead in it, I did extensive research and learned about Rhassoul clay and was able to heal my hyperpigmentation by hand making my own product.

I found that in the natural hair and skin care space the missing element was that a lot of products simply didn’t work. There are so many big named companies whose products don’t produce ANY results.

Thanks to months of research and testing on willing human participants I’ve been able to create life changing products as well as promote self love through the realm of self care.

I take pride in the fact that my products WORK. The testimonials I get via texts, email, comments and photos makes me know that I am truly accomplishing my mission.

My goal is to help my clients reconnect with the earth and themselves and to enhance as many peoples relationships with self care and self love as possible.

The way we treat others is a direct reflection of how we treat ourselves and I truly believe that sharing my struggle with self love helps inspire others and create the impact I desrie.

I don’t want to be a “perfect” brand that has it all together. I want to show people my flaws and how I have learned to love them. I want to show people when I am struggling with taking care of myself and how my products can help.

Self love isn’t taught in a school curriculum and that’s where Ethereal can help.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to go in Atlanta is anywhere in nature. I love Grant Park but hate how close it is to the zoo. Being an animal activist makes me hyper sensitive to energies surrounding zoo’s & anywhere where animals are kept in captivity. I love piedmont park & honestly any trails in the greater and outer atlanta area. If you’re looking for food I recommend Slutty vegan, it’s an experience you absolutely WON’T forget.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom, Traci and my grandma, Norma for truly instilling the art of self love, self care and business owning within me.

These ladies have owned businesses since the day I was born, my grandma owned her own hair salon and that truly taught me the art of helping others feel good about themselves through hair care and skin care.

My mom and grandma then created Imani Jewelry which is a unique couture jewelry company that’s been in business for 40 years!

Imani jewelry also known as “Our earrings don’t match” taught me the art of helping people feel good about themselves through the creations from our own hands. I am forever grateful for that.
