We had the good fortune of connecting with London Porchia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi London, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from the small city of Little Rock, Arkansas. I grew up in the heart of the city with my loving mother, as an only child. Growing up in a single parent household with no other siblings was the perfect recipe for an active imagination. I’d find myself trying many different things and exploring creative outlets in order to keep myself entertained. My mom was super supportive of whatever I tried big or small, which led me to my now true love and passion; photography. Although having free range to explore and come into myself seems pleasant, I was forced to grow up a lot faster than most children my age. I started working at a young age and became more independent, in order to support my mom and teach myself the things she couldn’t do on her own. These factors made a significant impact on who I am today, I’ve grown wiser and more mature with each experience/situation, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I am who I am today because of these things, I wouldn’t have found my purpose without it. Today I am independent, charismatic , adaptable, caring, and so much more. I owe it to the past and pray to grow in the future!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a lifestyle, portrait, and wedding photographer. I would describe my work as colorful, earthy, and defined. I aim to not only tell a story in my work but provoke and display emotions. My personality is very goofy, fun-loving, and energetic, and I’d like to think working with me and seeing my photos makes people feel that. I’m so excited about the next step, I recently became a full time photographer and I’ feeling beyond blessed and loving this lifestyle. I’m proud of myself for taking this leap and following my dreams. Professionally, I started back in 2017, but I’ve been taking pictures since as young as 5 years old. I originally considered myself to be a landscape photographer, but I eventually moved my talents over to people after some friends of mine offered to be my muse. I won’t say it’s been easy. There’s been many financial barriers, especially given that equipment isn’t cheap, but I’ve always been reassured that it’s not always about what you don’t have and more about what you do with what you already have. I continued to be patient and just have fun learning and doing something I love. Over time, things began to expand and develop, my passion became my mission. One of the things I’ve learned along this journey, is that the need to live out my purpose the way I know and should, greatly outweighs the need of acceptance and comparing myself to others purpose and journey. In creative fields, it’s easy to compare my work to the next artist and wanting to be accepted by people, but everyone is unique in their own way so comparison is lethal to artistry.
What I want the world to know about my brand and my photography is simply the importance of capturing moments and being authentically yourself. My brand will always reflect professionalism and execution. I aim to help all of my clients feel confident, lively and themselves. It’s all about freezing moments in time and evoking love in those memories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I currently reside in Memphis, TN. I always have friends and family visiting and they know I specialize in knowing all the best places to go! Memphis is known for it’s never-ending food options, and good barbecue, but I would say my first stop is one of my top places for some good ole’ chicken wings. You can never go wrong with wings in Memphis, but if I have to list some of my favorite and highly recommended places, they would be as follows: Venice Kitchen, Sage, Smackers, Trap Fusion, Coastal Fish Company, Bishop and many more! For the vibes and a nice drink, I would head over to Hyatt Centric rooftop, Mollie Fontaine Lounge, Crosstown Art Bar, Barware and anywhere with a nice patio! I spend a lot of time at Shelby Farms Park though, whether it’s shooting, running, or simply hanging out. I enjoy downtown and the midtown scene especially on a beautiful day. I enjoy the hidden gems around the city because there’s so many of them and each have their own unique presence. I love visiting and learning about new business and places to chill and most of all I love being that friend that knows where to go for any type of mood. I will say though, my heart is where ever nature is, so I like to spend a lot of time outside and being active. I specialize in shooting using natural light and just the sun as a mood setter for my photoshoots. I could honestly go on and on about the many adventures.I experience but most of all being open minded and willing the explore is the number one goal!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To start, I would like to shoutout my God. I want to give a special big thanks to my mom for her unconditional love and support of me. Next my boyfriend, friends, and family for always feeding my positivity and confidence; they are really my motivation. Lastly, I want to thank my creative community for always cheering me on and providing a helping hand, my craft has grown tremendously thanks to them!
