We had the good fortune of connecting with Londen Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Londen, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is to be one of the top and most exclusive estheticians in the industry. Like a celebrity esthetician Joanna Czech or Joelle Lee, who was the personal in-house esthetician for our first lady Michelle Obama. But you know, great in my right and in my own lane. But, if I’m being honest, on the other side of that, being able to do what I love with absolute freedom is the ultimate goal. To be able to grow an exclusive clientele list and have the ability to work on my own terms. The freedom to control my time. The freedom to travel and even let my career take me around the world. And most importantly, the freedom to retire when I’m ready (not anytime soon of course) and look back and say that I lived life doing what I loved. If my work continues on past my life time, I’d imagine it would be because my daughter took after me and also chose esthetics as a career or decided to manage the business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own a skin studio based in Dunwoody/Atlanta, GA. I assist my clients in achieving and maintaining optimal skin health and the maintenance thereafter. But I don’t just focus on the treatments, because lets face it, while I do provide exceptional results to my clients, I also know a handful of great estheticians in the Atlanta area too. I also focus on the experience. Making sure that when my client’s walk into my space, they are in tune with themselves through all of their touch point. I greet them at the door, there’s the music, there’s tea, there’s the warm, neutral color palette, there’s texture, its clean, it smells good… I make my client’s feel comfortable before laying on the treatment table, while they are being serviced, and even after they leave. In the grand scheme of things, I truly just hope to incite a call to action in everyone who comes into my space, or even observes my work, to choose themselves and take care of themselves in all areas of their lives.

I chose esthetics as a career after years of just loving all things health, beauty and maintenance. When I had my daughter, I needed a job. So I just grabbed what I could and for someone fresh out of college, my job wasn’t terrible but I hated the idea of going into an office everyday, being micromanaged, and being the millennial that I am, I truly just want to live a fulfilled life. I spent 5 years in college thinking that I wanted to spend my life in the nutrition field. Then I thought I wanted to do organic product formulation, not knowing that esthetics was even a things. So naturally, when I was introduced to aesthetics and went to visit a trade school, I fell in love. Signed up that day and never looked back.

I knew I wanted to be a solo esthetician, based on hearing other’s experiences of the frustration of not being able to grow how they wanted and do all the things they wanted to do while working under someone else. Not to mention some of the unethical practices that go on in the medical esthetics industry. But while taking on the entrepreneurship role is super ambitious, I think the caveat to jumping straight into your own business is still that lack of real world experiences and behind the scenes work. Because trade-school does not teach you those things. So my way of over-coming that obstacle is by staying in my lane and taking my time to learn the industry through trial and error, building relationships, asking questions, and just constantly finding education opportunities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, see I can’t even answer this because most of my time is spent at home or the spa haha. I’m sorry! But I’m definitely going to read through a few of the articles from others that have been interviewed to see what I need to be getting into. BUT, what I will highlight is an event called Beats + Ballads (B + B) that one of my dearest friends, Daijah Anasa, puts on every so often during the year. It started in 2019 I believe and has grown to be such a liberating experience. It’s pretty much an open-mic jam session. Music, poetry, live band, wine, cocktails. Everything to get the vibe right! It’s literally mine and my husband’s favorite date night and I ALWAYS invite everyone I know! Because the city has nothing like it! So if I had a friend coming into town for the weekend and B + B is happening, its a MUST that we go!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes! Of course! Because where would I even be without my community of people. My family and my husband’s family (parents, siblings, and grands). They are truly blessings. The amount of support is immeasurable. From watching my daughter until midnight while I was in trade school. To even allowing us to stay in their homes as both my husband and I build businesses. My friends. Each of my friends are so special and supportive in their own way and to see all of them accomplish so much and reach their own goals is truly inspiring. Of course, my husband and my daughter. They both provide a light for me. My desire to dive into my passions stems from just knowing that I can only serve them best by leading a life of happiness myself. And lastly, Nina Hayes. Nina is a private facialist (esthetician) based in Missouri and Atlanta. I found her podcast, Elite Estheticians, back in November and it truly redefined and sharpened my perspective in the industry. She’s all about black excellence and black luxury, and I’m always here for that.
