We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Frayer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’m actually not a fan of the term, “work life balance.” I feel like most people who are always in search of work life balance aren’t in the right career. I work a lot and sometimes when I’m not working, I’m thinking about work. This isn’t because I’m obsessed with work, it’s because I enjoy it. It’s become my job and my hobby. I get to meet and work with amazing people who need my help to solve big problems. It’s quite fulfilling. Now have my priorities changed somewhat as I’ve gotten more mature? Absolutely. I’m more intentional about my time so that I’m not trading work for family time. I have a much better perspective and appreciation about what matters in the long term.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Intrepid offers employee benefit consulting and service for small to midsize businesses headquartered in Atlanta. Our goal is to work with our employer clients to make healthcare more affordable, while making their benefits more understood and appreciated by their employees. Insurance sounds like a boring profession, but it is anything but that. The landscape is constantly changing with new regulation and technology. We often have the privilege to help people when they really need it because someone in their family is struggling with a health issue. We can’t treat the health issue, but we can take out the pain out of navigating a complex system.
Our team members are extremely dedicated and have a passion to serve. learn, and teach.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is the place to be right now! Every visitor would walk to the Beltline with me. We would start at Ponce City Market and then walk South, hitting Ladybird Mess Hall and Krog Street Market. I am a huge fan of the home town teams so ideally, it’s a Falcons weekend and the Falcons actually win! We would go to dinner near me at OK YAKI on Moreland. For brunch, I highly recommend Petit Chou on Memorial Drive. If my guests were easy going, I would take them to the brewery complex on the West Side for a progressive beer tasting. If they were ready to dance, we’d hit the Atlanta staple, Johnny’s Hideaway.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so proud to work alongside 18 smart and strong women. Being part of their careers is truly one of the biggest honors of my life. They think that I am mentoring them, but I learn something from them every day.
