Meet Linora Calloway: Beauty Instructor and Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Linora Calloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linora, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am an everyday teenager with GOALS, DREAMS and a love for the Fashion & Beauty Industry! I gave myself my first hair cut at the age of 3 years old. Needless to say, my mother was not happy at all! That is when my interest and love of hair started. I am a trained Wig Maker, Licensed Hair Braider and Natural Hair Stylist! Much like many young girls, I watched a lot of YouTube videos and makeup tutorials. I practiced many techniques, and discovered a few new ones of my own! After a while, YouTube videos became more for entertainment purposes, because the more I tapped into my creative side, I found that my techniques although in line with the latest trends, are unique to me! I love evolving in an industry that has inspired me so much, I have now become an innovator and trendsetter. I have taught many group and one on one makeup classes. The pandemic has really increased the demand for my makeup classes. Many times I am asked what kind of makeup or lashes do I use or, I receive compliments on my hair. It only makes sense that instead of referring all of these people to other companies, why not find the best quality products and share them with everyone in one place. There will be no need to refer everyone to 3 different companies when they can find everything that I love and have tested on one website!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Owner and CEO of BEAUTYBYLINORA.COM, Where I sell my own line for makeup and beauty products. My clients can also register for virtual makeup classes on my website. I am a Makeup Artist and Beauty Instructor. What sets me apart from others is that I am only 17 years old, and have already accomplished goals beyond my dreams. I continue to challenge myself, so once I achieve one thing, I am on to something newer and greater. One of my greatest challenges was when the pandemic started. There was a great demand for me and my services, but I had to turn down work for my safety and the safety of my clients. I overcame that challenge by taking advantage of connecting with my clients virtually. I also started going live on my Instagram account @beauty.by.linora.boutique every Tuesday evening at 5:45PM Eastern to show them how I use the makeup and beauty tools that they purchase from my website. Connecting with people virtually turned out to be a great asset to my business. I want everyone to know that although young, I take my brand and business very seriously. I take pride in everything about it. From the quality of my products and service to packaging and shipping, I want my customers to know that I value them. My clients and customers not only are supporting a small business, their support will also help me pursue additional education necessary for my field.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The pandemic has greatly changed how I have fun with friends. Pre COVID, I loved going skating, to the movies or hanging out at my friends homes. Now I have learned to do so many things virtually. We have dance parties, makeup parties and girls night over zoom. I have even gotten into gaming with my older brother and his friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother! I am definitely a daddy’s girl, but my mother is such a great influence and support system for me and my business. She often says that she is my greatest fan, but I am hers! I worked alongside my mother with her Fashion Accessories business for almost 3 years. She taught me the ins and outs of entrepreneurship, and how to operate her business from start to finish. Taking note of my natural talents, she encouraged me to earn money doing what I enjoyed doing everyday for free. This is how Beauty By Linora all started!
