We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Mckinnon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, my thought process was, I have this talent and love for photography, so do I keep this as a hobby or side business, or do I jump with both feet in and do this full time? I went to college for photography at Daytona State College for Photogenic Technology. So having that and a few business classes under my belt made that process easier.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s always challenging to start a business each month and year, there is a different struggle or hurdle for all businesses, big or small. I will say any business run by one person who wears all the hats in their business, like 95% of photographers. It’s amazing what we accomplish within our businesses and still keep going.

A lot of hard work and understanding of what clients want and expect during their whole experience from a photographer. My client experience is what I always want my business to be known for, besides my images. Everyone in the world wants to feel connected with people. So why not put that into place for my business? From the start of my booking process, I want to get to know YOU and what you love. My wedding clients receive a custom client gift with the things they love and speak to them. From there, I’m genuinely like your best friend, whatever you need from me, photography related or not…I’m there for you. And that right there is what I have found my clients no longer feel like a client, but they have a friend there to help the process become that much easier.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This might be a first but my favorite area in the city to go to is the Oakland Cemetery. Something about it is beautiful, and I have been known to take my clients there for sessions. Haha! From there, I’d either go to Six Feet Under for lunch across the street or Mezcalito’s Cocina & Tequila Bar.

A few other places I would suggest is Barcelona wine bar in Westside, Piedmont park, Little Five Points, and then I would suggest visiting some of the amazing small towns outside of Atlanta. I live in Covington, which is known for Vampire Diaries and a lot of other movies/ tv shows. But there are so many beautiful towns to visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few people who are my core support within my business. A few people are small business owners, and a few are loved ones. My husband is my biggest supporter, and while this might sound cheesy, he truly has been my biggest cheerleader. He has encouraged me to do what I love the most since starting photography back in High School. He’s one of the main reasons I started my business.

A few other businesses that are run by amazing friends and supporters are Moxie Fitness, @Local Coffee House and Study Lounge, and a handful of photographers that help with any and all questions and we support and cheer for each other’s wins.
