We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Frame Buss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Leaping into uncertainty is a powerful and necessary part of the Creative Process. As a storyteller, coach, and human who sees their life as an artistic unfolding, understanding the nature of risk is primary. For decades I lived with a profound aversion to mistake-making, believing that the only alternative to doing things “right” was doing things “wrong”. This binary held me back from so much discovery, adventure, community and, ultimately, the brilliance of self-transformation.

I have been inspired by countless risk-takers in the fields of Equity, Sustainability, Wellness, Rewilding, and Storytelling. That inspiration has led me to my own leaps into risk. Risk-taking has allowed me to enliven my purpose and build my business.

I now see “right” not as a binary, but as a living commitment to intention, attention, attunement, embodiment, restoration, and community connection. There is so much joy in this. Complex, wild, at times, uncomfortable joy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the founder of Sustainable Actor Collective in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Online & beyond. I am passionate about telling stories and supporting other artists in the stories that support their creative purpose. What, I believe, sets our work apart is a deep connection to the wild, unwieldy, wonderous nature of our collective and personal humanity. Inspired by leaders in the fields of Equity and Sustainability, SAC nurtures a community in which all creatives may thrive in their own right. Professional practices of radical consent, empathy, risk-taking and joy-centered, trauma-informed co-creating support a space for endless possibilities. In this way, stories can set us free and allow us to thrive, together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For my ultimate Atlanta adventure we’d start the day strolling through one of Atlanta’s beautiful parks, perhaps grabbing some goodies at Freedom Park Farmer’s Market. Or we’d stop at B-side Bagels for a morning treat. Next, we’d jaunt to Atlanta Contemporary Museum and check out some incredible local art installations. After that, we’d spend some time at Charis Books where independent writers are celebrated and showcased. For an afternoon snack we’d visit Krog Street Market and wander the Beltline or take in some local history on a King Historic District Tour. If we’re up for some nature hiking we could find our way to Morningside Nature Preserve or East Palisades Trail. I would definitely do dinner at my favorite spot, The Optimist, and then catch a show at the Masquerade or the Alliance Theatre, depending on whether we are up for some tunes or a great play. I suppose we’d have to end a day like that with a good night’s sleep.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I shout out my dear creative comrades, Malik J. Ali, founder of Atlanta’s Acts of Freedom, and Anthony Meindl, founder of Anthony Meindl’s Actors Workshop in Los Angeles.
