We had the good fortune of connecting with Liciaa J. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liciaa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I wanted to pursue a creative career because being creative truly comes natural to me and I enjoy using my many talents to create aesthetically pleasing results. I decided to start my own business in the beginning of the pandemic, during a time where things were very uncertain. Businesses were on hiring freezes and trying to navigate what their new daily work days would look like. It was very hard to find a job fresh out of college with all of this going on, so I decided to take a look inward and figure out how to create an income with some of my marketable talents. I have always been gifted and talented, so it just made sense for me to align my passion for design with my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Initially, when I started my business, it was more of a hobby and a way for me to help out my community, while keeping my skills sharp. My business, Fantasy Wave Creative, focuses on not only Website Design, but also Product Promotion and Social Media Management. What sets me apart from others with this business venture, is that I have incorporated elements of User Experience Design, which allows the experience between my clients and I to be super customized to their liking. I am most proud of the fact that I am a self taught Website and UX Designer, so that really helps me to stand out. It was not easy to get to where I am today, it took alot of long nights staying up late, working on my computer and teaching myself new ways to get better. I overcame challenges by researching where I wanted to be and how to get there. I set and accomplished alot of goals and I’m proud of myself for my drive and determination to keep pushing myself to where I want to be. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned along the way is keep going; you can manifest your dreams. I want the world to know that I’m okay with being unique and I’ve learned how to positively capitalize on what makes me different from the rest.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Charleston, South Carolina is my hometown. So if we were out there, I would take them to the Waterfront Park. There’s fountains, a beautiful park and plenty of scenic locations to take pictures at. We would go to one of the many Ice Cream shops in the area and then take a walk in the park near the water. Downtown Charleston is one of the most notable tourist areas in my city, so we would definitely explore there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course. First of all, all of the credit goes to God. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith. In addition, my family and friends constantly encourage me to follow my dreams and I truly appreciate their support. It keeps me focused and motivated when I feel discouraged. Also, this may sound silly, but my favorite TV show right now is SuperGirl and I really enjoy the positive messages that the show gives viewers like me. Sometimes we find encouragement in unlikely places, like watching a tv show. But this show in particular focuses on staying positive, even when you don’t know how things are going to get better, you just have to believe that they will.
